Comment: Goodness, you are a treasure trove of historical facts! I love all the details about the daily and social life, very interesting. It grounds the story very well and makes the main character a true woman of her time. The story unwinds at a calm pace, which I think makes for a pleasant and involved read. The only thing I wished for was more emotion from Eluned, I'd like to know how she is dealing with things, what she thinks, what she feels in certain moments. She seems very accepting at times when I probably would be going crazy! I'd like her to be a bit more involved. The writing is very good and I'd say don't give up! :D
Response: Thank you for your honest feedback, I do appreciate that. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I am like Eluned when it comes to emotions. I tend to be very accepting of things and then later think, I probably should have been screaming my head off....but I will try to write more emotion into her life and perhaps free up the emotion in mine. Thank you, I genuinely appreciate the comments.

Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. The Lord Peter Wimsey series is amazing and I binge read it all. My favourite besides Whose Body is The Nine Tailors. As to the items, it was such an intriguing opening to a book, a naked body in a tub with only a pince nez and chain on and smelling of violets. I was hooked from the first paragraph.

I would like to make one for myself...It was one of the first swaps I ever did and didn't make a copy or make an extra. I have learned since. Not necessarily the same pictures but the story that I wrote to go with it. I cannot remember the whole thing.

Comment: ❤️💜💚 There are a few times I wish there was a way to give more than 1 heart and this surely is it!! I loved the tea writing pad, and the loose leaf tea I adore but the tea set??? Absolutely ridiculously crazy amazing!!!! I mean be still my beating heart. After the most trying of mornings starting with a walk in dentist appt to get my son's braces fixed, a delayed meeting at work, and quick trip home to get the Halloween party treats I forgot to deliver at my kids school to find this swap waiting for me at home almost brought me to tears. Your thoughtfulness makes my heart so full. I am so thankful for such a beautiful gift and such an amazing giver...you!!

But best I liked your letter and i hope we'll be able to swap more in the Write Now Group. The Zinsser essay is perfect, I read it ages ago and have forgotten much of it. I'll be quoting parts of it to my writing class (senior citizens, writing biographically). Thanks a whole bunch and then some more.
Response: I am relieved about the suitcase, I love those things and wait until they are on sale and buy 2-3 different sizes. Most of my craft supplies are stored in them, well the crafts supplies that are not still in boxes in the basement. BUT, I digress. I am glad you liked the letter and hope that the other goodies prove useful. In the case of the sheet music if not to your taste, I hope that you find a way to repurpose it into your art. Response: Thank you. I appreciate that you get the complexity of alliterative poetry. I love it and do try very hard to paint those vivid pictures. I think I may have begun to master it when I have written an alliterative poem for every letter of the alphabet.

Response: I am glad you liked it. Hint about burning edges of a piece of paper, there are several ways to do it. One, which I did this time was to actually use the electric burners on my stove, you can control the burn that way. Another way is to actually use a paintbrush and "paint" water onto the paper about a 1/2 inch in from the edge, that way it only burns so far. I love lavender and thought when you opened it up it would be a pleasanter smell than the burnt edges of the paper.... Thanks for the heart

Response: The Park is an incredible place, I spend several hours a day in it, the excuse is that the dogs have to be walked. Rorye, my 14 year old dog loves to go into the Rose Garden and she does stop to smell the roses. She has several favourites and they seem to be the ones that have a very strong scent. She likes the deep red Damask roses, an apricot coloured one called Honey Perfume and a yellow one. The ones that don't have a strong scent she passes by so there is something that does attract her.

Comment: Thank you for sharing your family with me. My family is British and various branches immigrated to Australia between 1840 and 1920. A tea warmer is an interesting item to have.
Response: I sometimes wish my father had continued immigrating, when I was 7, my parents started talking about it again but never followed through. A tea warmer is interesting but I think it is more of what the tea warmer represents that makes it special. Home, tradition, family, very powerful things when you are leaving everything you know for some place you don't.

But just a suggestion: That same thing happened to me & I messaged the "owner" & swap host about keeping the journal til next round since it seemed wasteful to send back to owner before it was full. They were both ok with it & for fun, I added an extra spread. It saved time & postage for everyone. But THANK YOU for the gorgeous birch bark....reminds me of my childhood. I will cherish using it on something extra special!!

Response: Thank you, I am in love with Washington's trees. On Kodiak Island we only had Sitka Spruce and Scrub Alder so I am loving all the variety. The wisteria covered pine tree is definitely a favourite though.

Response: Thank you for your kind and gracious words. Perhaps you could put some of the seeds in a flower pot and have a garden in one window? When possible I prefer to type my letters, not because I am lazy but because there are so many creative fonts and I agree, it is much easier to read.

The flowers are lovely, I have a couple of projects at the moment that I can use them in. The chocolate coins won't last long! Response: I am glad you liked my letter. I have always seen names like April, June and Autumn as very romantic, old fashioned and musical. The images the name June brings to mind to me are full of sweet scents of flowers, new mown grass, strawberries, warm earth, blue skies, the promise of an entire summer stretching out before you...perhaps your parents had so much imagination that they found it hard to contain in one word so they chose June because that word represents so much.

Response: Standard poodles are crazy fun. Kobe, the one I walked was buckets of energy but had such a sweet personality and he was so smart! I miss walking him. He would jump over the other dogs if they got in his way whilst he was running around in circles. It would be nice to swap with you again. And thanks for taking the list the way I meant it, for fun. I found out in my 30's that I was slightly allergic to cats but informed my allergist that I wasn't getting rid of them so...I am highly allergic to bees, so we compromised. I keep the cats, but won't raise bees....

Comment: Oh my goodness no, I did not make that pin. It is the best pin I own, A Kirk's Folly pin. I do like pins with rhinestones and that was a Christmas present a few years ago. ebay was my friend for a few years but now I have so many pins it takes 2 months to wear them all. I wish I could play an instrument, but I did not have the stick-to-it-ness that one needs to play an instrument. I loved the postcard, one of the family vacations we went on was to Seattle and the Space Needle was something we visited. Thank you for the fun memory. Happy holidays.
Response: I love pins, pins and earrings are my thing, with the occasional chunky bracelet thrown in for good measure. I understand about the stick to it tiveness of playing an instrument but mostly I play by ear. But I do have to practice my scales, which can be boring. I am glad you liked the postcard. We came here in 1962 to the Seattle World's Fair. It was very strange to be standing on the observation deck 52 years later and recognizing some of the same buildings from then. Stranger still to be living here but that is a tale for another postcard

I may make the whole series of gods and goddesses (15 major ones) in that same style, black/gold/pottery images. I think it would be powerful. The bangles are beautiful. I'm a bracelet fanatic. Response: Whew! I saw that you had sent out a message first and the only think I could think was, oh no! She hated the letter, the bag, the contents and my little grey palfrey too... Thank you for liking and finding everything useful. I prefer swaps that are beautiful and useful instead of something that you are either afraid to use because it is too beautiful or you set aside because you can't use it. So, hurrah! It appears I chose wisely (this time). As to the story. It started as a diary swap and Naughty Elf was my partner. It was supposed to be 20 pages but I got carried away. But then life sort of interfered and I would shelve it and then take it back down. What I really need is for you and Naughty Elf to keep inventing swaps that require me to write, in which case I would probably finish the story because there would be that creative component, such as what has she gots in her pockets'es (sorry Gollum) and the letter to explain why or where or how. Anyway, I am thrilled that you are thrilled.

Response: thank you for your positive comments and yes, I probably will continue to expand on and fill in the story as these Creative Writing Exercises continue. The next one centres around a park bench. Perhaps that is the bench that Nathaniel sat on whilst he debated what to do with the box. The character in history that I have loosely based my writing exercise on is a man named Nathaniel Courthope who was one of the intrepid Dutchmen who did "discover" the Banda Islands better known as the Spice Islands...

If it makes you feel better, I have been picking up large glittery hearts from the crafts room all over my house and I thought I had taped that envelope down fairly well. And to be a minister who leaves a trail of loving hearts behind her....that's not a bad thing......And I am genuinely glad that you like the notebook, it was made specifically with you in mind. The glitter hearts were sort of an afterthought based on your comment about needing at least 'one little heart'

Response: It's okay, everyone seems to like that idea and it was one of those delightful accidents that happened when we were playing Pente and I saw how the glass half marbles or glass gems magnified what was underneath them. Response: No, I use to live in Florida and we had a canal in our backyard with an alligator in it. I also have lived in New York and did when I was 13 hike to the top of Mount Marcy so the lie was oddly enough the most believable of the statements. We live in the center of town and the bears usually don't make it this far, they go dumpster diving 1/4 of a mile from here, closer to the forest and the mountain....

Comment: This actually was the fastest swap ever to arrive from the US of A. hurray for Kodiak! (that trivia impressed my DH greatly, he's a huge fan of the DC-show) what a fun swap! I made mine out of polymer clay and wire as well and it turned out completely different from yours. it's nice to see what people come up with. thanks as well for the little photo sticky thingy's, I already completely forgot about them, but I will put them to good use.

The extra blank journal in the Book of Kells styling is something I have wanted for some time now, how did you know? :-) The pen is my first quill pen and cannot wait to get some ink for it and try it out. Response: The book of Kells sort of threw itself off the shelf and into my hands but then later I saw the leather bound one with the botanical prints on the front. I couldn't put it down. Since you were the reason I bought them then they needed to be with you. As to ink for your quill pen...A & M makes excellent ink and you should be able to find some at a good stationer's or art store in a variety of colours including indigo, auburn, verte, turquoise, black and my personal favorite, tobacco. Be patient with yourself at first, using a quill pen takes lots of practice to get a feel for it and then you have to use it constantly or you lose the feel of it. I am waiting for your pm. We need to set up another swap, so I will continue to write until the story is done. Then if I get it published you can come on the book tours with me...

Response: Thank you and yes, I agree, I liked that I got to "rescue" 50 half sheets of paper from the recycle bin, so hopefully it will be used and then recycled. The envelopes, obviously were from an outdated textbook that was heading for the trashbin. I like being able to creatively reuse things, I just want it all to be neat and tidy when I do it.

Response: I like keys as well so it is hard parting with them but as long as it found a good home then the sacrifice was worth it. I look for them in crafts stores, thrift shops and even locksmiths at times have old keys that they will get rid of. I am glad you like the house, I am having so much fun with this swap.

After that I was afraid that your swap might disappear into a black hole because I did too good a job making it look good. You HAVE to read Trade Winds and A Death in Zanzibar. You can find them on Amazon.com used for a couple of bucks. Try to get a copy of the 1963 version instead of the 1981. You would also love Shadow of the Moon.....ahhhh...I am so excited. Someone who has actually heard of M.M. Kaye without me telling them. You made my day!

I love garnets, beautiful stone, I would take garnets over diamonds, any day of the week. I have read every book Maeve Binchy has written, they are wonderful books. I kept a copy of the prayer of abandonment for myself as I soooooo needed it right now. And yes, I had a long talk with Maya, that lasted 7 hours, the length of time it took me to comb out her hair, that there are certain things it is better to not be curious about what it would be like to have them, head lice being at the top of the list. She has assured me that she will no longer trade hats with the other children at school, especially when a head lice infestation has been announced. Children are full of suprises, some of them pleasant, some not so much.

Comment: Thanks for the great card and quotes. Grizzly bears are one of the only animals that scare me. Not that I've ever seen one in the wild (plenty of black bears). I'd really love to visit Alaska. Maybe someday.
Response: Kodiak bears are actually a subspecies of Grizzly bears and twice as large as normal Grizz, a full grown Kodiak bear can weigh 1,000 pounds and stand 10 feet tall so yes, the size is intimidating and they are smart so you are right to have a healthy respect although normally if you see one and you mind your business and your dog minds his business then the bear will mind its business. It is the "teenaged" bears or the old, sick ones that are unpredictable and can be dangerous. If you ever come to Kodiak, Alaska, I will tell you what I tell everyone, the door is always open......

Simba loves his toy, and DH loves the Fractured Fairy Tales, he is a huge Rocky and Bullwinkle fan, had to fight him for it! Stamps, buttons, tiny clothespins, all things I am crazy for. The tea is super, I never treat myself to good tea, and popcorn, how thoughtful! Notebooks, cards, "gaudy" goodies, all very useful. Teddy will sit with me at work. I work from home and have personal fun things all surrounding me, just love it!

Response: Cinnamon Basil Sorbet 3 Cups Apple Juice 2 Cups Sugar 4 Large Sprigs Cinnamon Basil Juice of 1 Lemon Grated Rind of 1 Lemon Combine apple juice and sugar in a sauce pan and heat until sugar is just dissolved. Add cinnamon basil and cover. Let steep 30 minutes. Strain out basil. Add lemon juice and rind. Chill thoroughly. Prepare in ice cream maker according to manufacturers instructions or pour in a shallow dish and place in freezer, stirring about every 30 minutes, until frozen. Recipe makes 4-6 servings.

Response: Yes, Chocolat was made into a movie that is brilliant and one of my favorite "feel good" movies. The book is darker than the movie. Good but darker in tone. Oh, thanks for the heart. I wasn't being rude, we just started talking about books and the movies made from them that is a subject that can distract me. The book is good, the movie is better. And I have only said that of three book/movie combinations in my life thus far. Dr. Zhivago. Last of the Mohicans and Chocolat.

Comment: thank you so much for a really great package. i love the books and i will have great fun with the kids this weekend making the ginger bread house. my 2 year old has just spent the last 2 hours playing with the basket of food, i think i will ever get them back =) did you make them your self, they are really good, very realistic.
Response: Oh I am so happy you got it and liked it. My 15 year old son and I spent a wonderful afternoon making the food for the basket of goodies. I just thought both of those Little Red Riding Hood books were incredible so I had to share. The white stones go with the Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house, I think I forgot to stick a note in about them. Have as much fun with your kids as I had with mine doing this.

Response: I am sorry it is freezing where you are but right now, at 2 degrees with wind chill, 40 seems like bathing suit weather to me! Although I will admit, as long as my fingers and toes are warm, the rest of me is fine, perhaps I should have sent mittens as well....

Response: See, sometimes being flaked on is 'euphoric' or serendipitous, I wanted this to make you feel happy about getting a substitute. I thought you would like The Memory Room. I could never bring myself to cut, hack or whack at it but I have made copies of some of those illustrations. They are incredible and the poems are pretty great as well.

Response: I love using old text books for altered book art simply because they are fascinating! I have Winston Readers for the 4th and 5th grade from 1910. They certainly didn't have Dick and Jane back then!

Response: My Belgian Tervuren gives me the same caught in the act look and I absolutely love it! Mostly, my background music would be Worship music with a bit of the Jaws theme if I was getting ready to make a stupid choice but then...would I ever get out of bed if the music for the day was bad...

Response: I am so relieved you got it. I once had a letter go astray to Platinum Alaska, which is a very small fishing village on Bristol Bay and it sat there for six months before someone thought to put it back on the mail plane and send it on. I get a little nervy about mail sometimes since then.
