I love to trade art and zines, with friends and strangers.
I collect old toys, photos, memorabilia. Action figures from the 80's and early 90's are a big deal for me especially Ninja Turtles and Stone Protectors.
I love old books and incorporate them into my work often, if it's not one I want to keep intact forever.
I recently made my first two zines and am now in love with everything zine related. In the process of adding more to my collection through mail trades.
I love horror films, mostly from the 80's with their amazing hands on special effects. Evil Dead 1 and 2, Dead Alive, Re-animator, and A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-5 are some of my favorites.
I draw, paint, make collages. Follow me on instagram and see my work @monicaaahh
My first love of music: The Beatles
Nina Simone, Fats Domino, Roy Orbison, Tori Amos, Beach House, Dead Man's Bones, Florence and the Machine, Devendra Banhart, Fiona Apple, Nico, Jose Gonzalez, Jorge Drexler, Liliana Felipe...and on and on.
Love odd children's books by authors/illustrators like: Roald Dahl, Maurice Sendak, Michel Gagné, Gris Grimly, Edward Gorey, Tim Burton
Graphic Novels make my day...Craig Thompson, Jeffrey Brown, Lucy Knisley, Renee French, James Kochalka
Literature and poetry: Jack Kerouac, Gary Snider, Bukowski, Diane DiPrima, Benedetti, Milan Kundera, Kafka, Salinger and more
Favorite Movie Ever: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Directors: Michel Gondry, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Woody Allen (old stuff, for the most part), Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Almodovar, Jim Jarmusch, Mike Mills...and more
Movies: Beginners, Pinocchio, Drive, The Imposter, Science of Sleep, Paranorman, A Nightmare Before Xmas, The Illusionist (animation), Triplets of Belleville, Amelie, City of the Lost Children, Delicatessen, Annie Hall, Scott Pilgrim Vs the World...it's a neverending list.
I am a movie addict. I have been since I can remember.
90's Nickelodeon...or as I refer to it, Nickelodeon's Golden Years: Pete and Pete, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, (early) Rugrats, Aahhh Real Monsters, Doug...nick is pretty flacky now...except for Spongebob.
Cartoon Network at least offers Adventure Time and Regular Show, which I love. Reminds me of when Nick was good.
Series: Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, Top of the Lake, Weeds (although first two seasons were the best and then it was just okay), American Horror Story
Funny: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, Wipeout (and spanish version Guaypaut), Tosh.O, 7 minutes in heaven, Between two ferns, Jackass, The Tom Green Show
MTV in the 80's and 90's was great. They actually had music videos. There was crazy animation. Weirdo shows and hosts. MTV now just sucks.
