I like the poem but I'm beginning to feel worried because over the past couple years I've received various Silverstein poems from various swappers -- is there a generation of young women who believe he is a serious poet? Did you read real poetry in school?
Response: Depends on your definition of "real" poetry. ;)
I did read a lot of the classics in college - Shakespeare, Poe, Yeats, Frost, Dickinson, and more. And while they are all beautiful writers (Sylvia Plath is my favorite), sometimes revisiting something from your childhood can be the most rewarding. There is beauty in simplicity. (Plus, a lot of my favorite poems are longer than 50 words!)
