I am new here so I don't know what to write. Except I like to write, which is why I am here.

I am obsessed with letter writing. I love to make new pen pal friends and connect with people in other parts of the world. Back before the year of the plague I loved to travel and I am really into languages, even though I am not very good at learning them. Still if anyone wants to practice Arabic or knows enough Kazakh (or any other Turkic language) to help me learn it I'm probably game for that.

Some random stuff about me because I really have no idea how else to do this:

-I am happily married and the father of an 11 year old boy.

-I lived in Kazakhstan for a year or so in a legal battle to adopt my son. (spoiler: we won!) Kazakhstan is still a big part of my life.

-I studied Arabic for 10 years and once was almost conversational. Now I'm just rusty.

-I love reading books! All kinds of books! Science fiction people are my people, but since college I have expanded to read all kinds of stuff, fiction and non fiction, highfallootin and lowfallootin.

-I have a bunch of other interests that I don't get to do much anymore because of COVID-19, like strategy board games, and international travel.

-I have a rule that I must respond to any letter within two mail days. I instituted the rule in 2015 and, to date, I have never broken it.

-I watch shows sometimes. I tend to do one show at a time, waiting until all the episodes of an entire season are out and then binge my way through the whole thing, before moving on to something else. I tend to watch late at night, after my wife and son are asleep because I am the one night owl in the family. But when my wife is having a rough time (either because of the state of the world or rough stuff at work) she stays up later and I watch less. COVID and recent politics have caused me to watch a lot less.

-I have zero interest in any kind of sportsball. Seriously, I can't tell one squadron (or whatever you call the group that wears the same shirts) from the next. I do avidly follow all sports that my son participates in, but only if he is participating. I just don't get why anyone would ever be a spectator to someone they don't know.

-Because I am now here, I am a bit intimidated by the concept of a swap. What if my stuff is shit and everyone else sends out good stuff? Do I have enough of a sense to even know what is good? Inshallah that insecurity will go away after I get a swap or two under my belt. But at this point I'm mostly just looking at exchanging letters. I can do letters. I love letters. People are always interesting.
