Hello fellow swappers! Nice to see you checking out my profile. My name is Marley. I live in the Florida panhandle, in the USA. *Tangent: I have always thought the phrase โFlorida
panhandleโ should have described the opposite side of Florida than it does. If you look at a map of the US you can see the bit of Florida hanging down- it seems like that should be the part of Florida that is called the panhandle. Since it is the handle of the pan of the US. But that the pan of Florida and I am in the handle, just under Alabama.
I moved to the beach despite not actually liking the beach, just seemed like it would be fun. I enjoy the theory of the beach. I love to look at it and listen to the waves, but I do not approach. The sand and waves are my enemy- they wait for me to be lulled into forgetting the past and walk out again- then they pounce. I have terrible balance so I always end up knocked to the ground, breathing salt water.
Previously I was living in South Korea. In a town called Gongju, meaning Princess. I studied Korean in university and I wanted a chance to use my skills- not that I'm that good. I worked as an English teacher to Elementary students. I loved the job but the work culture was a bit to harsh for me. Between Study abroad and working I lived in Korea for almost five years.
If you know about Hallyu- I am more of a kdrama person, rather than kpop. I like BTS- but I have been into K-pop since they were in elementary school. I am a Shinee, Super Junior, Big Bang person. My first kdrama was Coffee Prince and I got so lucky, since that is a great one. I havenโt watched kdramas in a while- I stopped watching when I was living there- since I was listening to Korean all the time in my daily life- and I havenโt quite been able to get back into them.
I am currently in the process of turning my apartment into a plant jungle. I have more than 20 potted plants of various sizes. My largest by with is a Monstera named Jade and the longest is a Golden pothos named Legs. I say I donโt have a favorite but it is a silver queen pothos called Eunbi.
When I was in High School my friends described me as a secret grandmother since I liked, โold lady hobbiesโ but I was just ahead of the trend.
I have been doing cross stitch since I was in middle school. And Embroidery for the last three years or so.
I have a sewing machine and like the feeling of accomplishment of making something my self. My eyesight is not very good though so as I am sewing I move closer and closer to the machine until the shuttle knocks me in the forehead. You can tell I have been sewing when you see the blue bruise on my forehead.
I keep a simple bullet journal with washi tape and markers. I like to create spreads that are along a simple theme- same color, shape or feeling.
Very recently I have started watercolor painting. I have two small beginner pallets and simple paper. I have been watching YouTube tutorial and just sort of playing around.
These are the hobbies I enjoy doing but that isnโt to say I am good at any of them really. I donโt really have the personality that lends it self to focused improvement. As I see it I am having fun so it is worthwhile.
I really enjoy reading books. On the fiction side of things I favor young adult, sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, and slice of life. Iโm always looking for good book recs. (I am not opposed to โspicyโ books- but as an Ace that doesnโt really do much for me.)
When we are talking non fiction. I read a lot of poetry and self improvement/productivity books.
Currently Reading A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor- Hank Green The Body is Not an Apology- Sonya Rene Taylor
I have been a postcard collector for about 10 years so I have quite a few. Lots from Korea- since I lived there for so long. And quite a few vintage ones that I have gotten from relatives.
I prefer graphic based postcards above all other types: logos, line art, maps, etc. I donโt particularly like touristy photos of building type postcards.
I also really love postcards that feature art-hand made or photos/prints of art pieces.
I love postcards which show off a cultural tradition or regional specialty.
The more unique a post card the better.
