I'm 61 year old wife and mom with a 5 year old alter ego! I guess that is what you would call it. I picked 5 years old for my inner child because at 5 you are pretty self efficient and you haven’t been ruined by going to school! So when the world expects me to be too grown up out comes the fun stuff and I escape for awhile. Lol. I love crayola products, mostly crayons, and twist able pencils and crayons. I was looking through my closet the other day and found several of antique crayola products. I have a 64 box state crayon collection. It has a crayon for every state and 14 more that pertain to America! Went on ebay to see if anyone was selling this box and there were none! This box was released in 2004 and has never been used! I have a definite weakness for crayons. On outside activity , like tye dying with anyone who would like to do it. I love to sew, knit, crochet, crafts, beading, quilting, English smocking, cooking, decorating cakes, baking, floral arrangements., My husband of 38 years says it's easier to say what I don't do instead of counting the things I do ! the only thing I don't like is plastic canvas and needlepoint. I love helping children learn a new project and having them read the recipe or the directions. I like this because they think they will only have books to read. I love beads from seed beads to decorative beads. buttons. wow do I love buttons! I have quite a collection but sometimes i just can't resist a cute button! I love puzzles. Like to have one going on a table during the year to put together when taking a break from the mundane ,you know like cleaning or laundry!
I like cozy mysteries books. There are several that have sewing or baking woven into them with the mystery. Let me think about the authors I like……Elizabeth Lynn Casey , a southern sewing circle mystery. Amanda lee , and embroidery mystery. I have looked at the other cozy mystery writers. There is another author that I like that is kind of quirky have birds in the title……oh Murder with puffins by donna Andrews, meg langslow mysteries and Debbie Maomber’s cedar cove mysteries. I have most of these unless there is something really new. There are others that I look at but haven’t added to my likes. I also like the Stephanie plum series starts with one for the money, by Janet Evonovich. They are hilarious and when I need a good laugh I start reading the first ones again. The very first one is a little slow but the second had me laughing all the way through.! I don’t like to read anything I really have to think about or that is scary! Reading is an escape for me kind of like being 5! Lol if you know of a series along these lines or an author I would love to hear about it I also love cookbooks, the children's books are always a happy find. I love to collect different abc books. I have one the is title lmnop it's so cute, I have one that is all adjectives, a bible one and so many more. sandra boynton is my go to books for toddlers. I have a collection of her books the ones on my wish list are tickle time, snoozes, happy hippo, angry duck, a book of moods. another author I love is ed emberly''s drawing books. when my son was born I didn't know how to draw anything but hearts, flowers and girlie stuff. his book make a world showed me how to draw all kinds of things with just ./II ( )and a few other symbols. It is the greatest gift for children around 10 with paper and a box of pencils. he has so many other but they are slowly going out of print. best books ever for a rainy or bored day!
I love children from birth till 5. I love the smell of newborn babies. The part I love most is their feet! I just love, love, love baby feet. One reason is because when Zachary was little I would let the other children touch his feet but not his hands. His hands were always in his mouth and I didn’t need him to be sick! I love to watch the face of children as they explore. 2 year olds are the best! 3 year olds not so much! Lol they really show their independence! I have been making peppermint swirl dresses from candy castle patterns. they are so beautiful and i had a great time making them for my great nieces. I have 2 made and 2 to go.
I like talking to people. I’m like my dad I have never met a stranger! I can strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere! I especially like when a person passes me in a parking lot and what they are wearing looks especially nice or a wonderful color I comment while passing by how nice they look, or that color on them is perfect! Things like that I used to do it when my grandmother was alive and I would be taking her shopping. She was in her 80’s so she needed to hold my arm when we were walking. When I would say a nice thing to a person she would pull my arm and say shhhh. I said what? She asked me if I knew her . I said no and she gave me that grandmother look to which I reply “ I’m old enough to talk to strangers now and didn’t you think she looked nice??” she would just look at me and I would laugh inside. I don’t ever want to be old and grumpy! That is why I have my inner child to rely on.!
I love to sit and embroidery. I loss a lot of my DMC floss in the flood. Now I get to replace it. Yeah! The colors I like are pink, green, red, and blue.Pink is a color I wear a lot so is red. my husband loves me more in red! lol I like to do things in bright bold colors. Like the original 8 pack of crayola crayons. Pastels not so much. I love white on babies. Never black! There is such an innocence and purity about babies. I also like finger puppets for the car. when we have to wait or go to the doctors out come the finger puppets and we can have a chat. I have lost my huge collection that I had when my son was little so now I need to start over. they aren't expensive so I would pick them up when we were shopping. I was sorting out my fabric the other day and found some smocked fronts that I did years ago. Now i have little girls to sew for. I just need to find the pattern and cut out the size and put them together. I do love to work with needle and thread.
We have one son. We were married for 17 years before we were blessed with our child. No birth control, lots of practicing and praying but no blessing. I did get pregnant when I was 32 but that resulted in a tubal pregnancy and surgery. When I was 36 my husband had a major heart attack and triple bypass surgery. They said the operation would last 10 years as the leg veins usually start to leak. It has been 25 years and other than one stint put in he is still going strong! I didn’t want to try again for a child as I’m a firm believer that a child needs two parents. When he hit the 5 year mark my girlfriend talked him into going to fertility and trying again. I was then 39 almost 40. I figured it wouldn't work but I would try one more time. I told God if the final answer was no I would put this dream aside and go back to school to become a teacher. I had 13 rent a kids in my life and they were getting older! A rent a kid was my siblings children and friends children that I rented if I wanted to go to the playground, or a Disney movie, or just to make a mess in the kitchen baking. I just love children and my life grows old without an influx of children coming and going. We tried fertility for only 5 months and I was pregnant! I don’t know who was more surprised me or the doctor! I only had one egg that was large enough to fertilize and it only took one! I just let go and let God for I was certain the answer was going to be no! when our son was born I had really wanted a girl. My family is over run by girls and I knew how to take care of them. I sewed, smocked, French braided hair, on and on and on. I didn't know what to do with boys! When he was born I thought ok God you have a great sense of humor! I waited 17 years and you give me a boy! What am I going to do with a boy! Lol I needed a new learning curve and we just learned together. I learned how to build with legos, how to build with brio trains, and how much little boys love their mothers! Everyone thought that having a child late in life he would be spoiled rotten and especially only one! That didn't happen. Zachary is in his second year of college and wants to be a computer scientist and physicist . he took a lot of ap courses in high school so he started college only needing 2 core classes and he was able to jump into his major by second semester. We turned his college fund over to him and he has to make it stretch as far as he can and the rest will be a student loan. He feels he will only have to take a student loan out for the last year of college! He is very independent and thankful for the things we do for him. He knows the difference between wants and needs and is handling his money very well. We actually do nothing for him. We go and get him from school and he has access to our cars but he does everything for himself. It is so rewarding and sad that I have worked myself out of a job I loved. I did what any parent is assigned to do raise a child with love, understanding and to be totally independent! I miss him being gone most of the time and count the days until he is home on breaks. Oh we named him Zachary because it means the Lord remembers. After 17 years I couldn't think of anything else!
I love ice tea. regular lipton tea and occasionally I mix tevana tea with my regular tea. I love their blueberry one. I drink ice tea all year long. when ever I go out I make it a point to go to McDonald's for their one dollar ice tea. have never liked cofffee. we make all our food from recipes. I love to find new recipes and different dinner ideas. I love japanese where they cook in front of you. my son's favorite restaurant. is SAKURA . I live in maryland so crabs are always welcome in my home. lol I love to get the wok out and stir fry dinner. always willing to try any family recipes anyone wants to send me! I love Jelly Belly Jelly beans! not the hot ones the fruit ones, the cold stone creamery watermelon, toasted marshmallow and the list goes on and on and on. lol
My favorite animal is a giraffe. don't really know why but I do love them. i love to see butterflies, dragon flies, rainbows, I think hedgehogs are really cute. flowers are beautiful but I have a hard time growing them. I love lilac, carnations, freesia, yellow roses and dandelions. when my son was little he called them sun flowers and would bring them to me all the time. oh and wild violets. I had some i had gotten from my grand mother and he would pick them for me also. as far as wild flowers go I love queen ann's lace , thistle, and black eyed susan's. . I like thistle even though it is a hard plant to get rid of and it has thorns.
