Mixed media collage is my first love. Also dabble in altered books, visual journals, ATCs and assembelages. My taste in art is eclectic and currently includes ethnic art, specifically: asian, indian and egyptian. Am fascinated with world war ii era and art deco styles. I like some of everything. Am drawn to bold, vibrant colors, but also love monochromatic works, and admire wabi sabi. I like new and unusual interpretations of subjects, original thought; I am a process geek and sometimes trade just to "see" how someone did that.
Exceptions: These are just my personal taste and NOT a judgment on anyone's art, but I am not drawn to birds or nature, preferring emphasis on culture and people in general. For some reason I am unable to articulate, I do not care for "cute" art, cartoons or children as subjects in art. Of course, there are exceptions to all of that, but, generally speaking ....
I like art that a person has put some time, care, effort, planning and forthought into, either consciously or subconsciously. Art that comes from the soul. Have found that my taste is often very different from most others I know. What excites me often leaves others flat, and vice versa.
Am much more of a creator than a trader, but love the learning and growing that comes from holding some one else's art in my hand. Often I trade the "artist" rather than the "art." That is, if I like an artist's work, it may not matter to me which particular piece I trade for ... although sometimes a picture shouts my name.
Aside from art, I enjoy reading, dancing, music of almost any kind, canoeing, kayaking, walking, friends, family, hugging trees, abolishing the death penalty and saving the world.
I am a gluten-free vegetarian and picky eater besides.
