I am a seventh grade English teacher who relishes her free summers to sew and turn my sewing room into a big fabric-y mess. I am 37 and have been married for 5 years. No kids, ever, but I have a 12-year-old boxer mix named Maggie who is the other love of my life.
My side business is making fabric kitchen wares such as pot holders, oven mitts, market bags, placemats. I love vintage fabrics and try to use them as much as possible.
I am also a huge gardening freak and will talk plants with like-minded folk for hours. Do you have seeds to share? I do!
My favorite colors are green, blue and purple, but I am always looking to add yellows and oranges to my fabric stash. Aesthetic-wise, I enjoy mid-century modern, Asian, clean lines, but not as stark as Ikea (although I do love me some Ikea). I like to keep things neat and orderly, due to a childhood spent in homes that were constantly being renovated. Lots of spackling.
Sewing, quilting, and I say I like knitting, even though I rarely knit anything. I like the whole modern quilt thing. My favorite fabric lines are Michael Miller, Alexander Henry, Denyse Schmidt and Amy Butler.
80's new wave and punk, Brazilian jazz, old jazz, and a few newer bands. All-time faves: The Descendants Bad Religion The Smiths Stiff Little Fingers The Misfits
Nothing sci-fi! Here are just a few: Mad Men (cannot wait for the new season!) Project Runway Degrassi: The Next Generation ( I watched the original when I was a teenager) Ghost Hunters old episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 (Did we really wear those horrible fashions?!)
I am a huge reader, and always have been. I would probably prefer reading over socializing with people!
Favorite authors: John Steinbeck Amy Tan Alice Walker Margaret Atwood T. Coraghessan Boyle ( I think that's how you spell his name) John Updike Garrison Keillor
