Favorite Music

Southern gospel, middle-of-the-road, 50's and 60's, novelty, hymns! Music is a big part of my life. Can't play an instrument, I can turn up the radio! I enjoy ,Doug Oldham, Daniel O'Donnell, the Gaithers, Jake Hess, the Cathedrals, Statler Brothers, Ernie Hasse and Signature Sound, Pat Boone, Tom T hall, Eddy Arnold, boxcar Willie, Lynn Anderson, Donna Fargo, The Beach Boys, Peter Paul and Mary, The Carpenters, Roger Whittaker, Burl Ives, and so many more. I adore Christmas music of all kinds including the Trans Siberian Orchestra, Christmas music from the country stars. I enjoy Andy Williams, the older music featuring the Osmonds, Perry Como, Patsy Cline, Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller Also enjoy Christian comedy of Chonda Pierce, Mark Lowry, Dennis Swanberg, Ken Davis, and Mark Bradford. I have a large collection of sanctified oldies. I have a huge collection children's music, and remember with fondness the days of the magic organ, and Calliope music. And I'm one of the few people that has over 3000 CDs with none on an iPod or other device. I am also a huge dr. Demento fan and the music that he played on his former radio show. I was a loyal listener for many years.

Favorite Books

Books and I get along really well. I am a book hoarder and proud of it. My collection varies from inspirational to children's literature. I have over 50 thousand books. My family has always loved to read and appreciated the printed word. Some of my other favorites are humor and cartoons, trivia, interesting facts, reference books, school books from the sixties, dictionaries. I love gift books, Chicken Soup for the Soul books and other compilations including God Winks and God Makes U-turns. Little stories that lift up, encourage and inspire. Helen Steiner Rice poetry is a treat. Also have a passion for books about journaling, journals, some cookbooks, and books with true life stories, and books about books. I can leave the crime thrillers, sci-fi, romance, westerns and general fiction on the shelves in the stores. I do enjoy some of those writers who talk about the Amish culture. As for children's books I enjoy Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, Harold and the Purple Crayon series, the Magic School Bus, the American Girls stories, Peter Rabbit, Little House on the Prairie, the Happy Hollisters, the Borrowers, Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, Jack Prelutsky, Jeff Moss and Shel Silverstein poetry, and so many more. I have long specialized in collecting Little Golden Books and have over 1000 titles. The giant format picture books amaze me. Have favorite authors of Beverly Cleary, Tasha Tudor, and at least a thousand others.

Favorite Movies

I am one of the few people on planet earth who is not a movie buff. There are many that I have enjoyed over the years but very few that I would watch again other than National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I enjoy comedy the most. Also enjoy the Hallmark movies. As for going to the theater, I have not been to one in over 5 years. Just doesn't interest me. We are not big renters of movies either. Watch what's on TV and sometimes will buy at yard sales for future viewing. Do not follow the careers of the movie stars so it's not like I have to see every movie that a person has made.

Favorite Crafts

I am a crafty person although nothing too complicated. I cannot do needle arts. I enjoy scrapbooking and rubber stamping the most along with very simple kids crafts to help teach Bible lessons in children's church. I have been making scrapbooks since I was knee high to a grasshopper, with simple things. Card fronts, newspaper clippings, cartoons.

When the formal scrapbooking arrived I was elated because it incorporated one of my favorite items to use and that is stickers. I don't do fancy layouts and I'm not picky. My goal is to get all these pictures family members have taken over the years into good quality albums that will be able to be enjoyed for a lifetime. I was a Creative Memories consultant for many years and it greatly bothers me that the company went belly up. There are many companies that I love including K and Company, Jolee's Boutique and the private line from Michaels. I love to buy craft items off eBay because you get such fantastic deals. I am now into the pocket pals letters and enjoying that immensely. I find it very relaxingwhile sitting in my recliner and watching TV. As far as rubber stamping I come and go...and have over 10,000 rubber stamps. I could open my own scrapbook store and it also bothers me that so many of these stores have gone belly-up because they were great romps. I like to make my own books, cards and other interesting paper cremations. I have not yet gotten hooked on planners. probably because I don't have much in life to plan for except doctor appointments. I cannot draw or play the piano!

Favorite Television

Because I have a chronic illness..4th srage chronic kidnet disease..I am home all day and watch a lot of TV. I don't have regular hours so I can be watching anything during a 24 hour period. Favorites are ...Good Morning America, Kelly and Michael, Young and the Restless, The Chew, The Talk, Rachael Ray, Dr. Phil, Jeopardy!, Paula Sands Live. Evening shows we both enjoy are Undercover Boss, Chicago Fire and Shark Tank. I also enjoy Antiques Roadshow, Cook's Country, Iowa Ingredient, Martha Stewart, and the evening PBS musical shows ... Gaithers, Daniel O'Donnell, Lawrence Welk. Also enjoy Law and Order SUV, 60 minutes, 20-20, The Middle, America's Got Talent , Storm Stories, At night when I can't sleep I turn into a World News Now addict. I also enjoy Sunday Morning, a show locally produced about collectors, and have been a Letterman fan for years.

this, that and the .otter...

I have lived in a small town most of my life, but had the privilege of living in Minnesota where I met my husband. John and I have been married for 33 years. We have two cats, no kids. Live in a large city now close to all the conveniences that life might require. I enjoy cooking but I am NOT physically able to do so right now so we rely on the humongo grocery store delis and fast food places and then fill in. We are active in church. We enjoy gtilling most weekends during the summer. Our favorite sport is yard sales. I am a collector of many things including Hallmark tree ornaments, pens and pencils, business cards, handkerchie, pinback buttons, advertising premiums, do dads and geee gaws, Charlie Brown items and books, stationery, stickers, rubber stamps, magazines, key chain'schain's, and selected postcards mostly antique Victorian and States map. all family members at one time have collected something and have amassed very large collections. Mostly picking them up for nickels and dimes at yard sales. It has been a wonderful life. I have type 2 diabetes and numerous complications that lead like a criminal rap sheet. I am also in 4th stage renal failure and has significant vision and hearing loss. I am no longer allowed to drive and we'll have to consider a hearing aid in the coming years. Even so I remain very positive and fill my life with a great sense of humor always quoting a joke or pun. I have been trained in public speaking throuugh Toastmasters International and also practice ventriloquisim. One needs a little bit of cheer in their day. I am one who will speak to others in elevators, especially at the hospital. Life is not going to get me down because I know I'm not going to get out of it alive so I might as well enjoy every single hour of every day. I have been a letter writer for years. In this time I have received over 30,000 cards and letters and have saved 90% of them all filed away in boxes. Writing is a great joy for me. I have yet to pen my book but have a couple of chapters completed. I currently produce a newsletter, Turtle's Garden of Friendship and also write for three other penpal related publications. The pen is always flowing. I love ink pens any kind and color. I have always saved one sheet and envelope of every kind of stationary I've ever bought and have over 3000 different pieces in that collection. My mother had a very large collection of at least 400 dolls, and I am having a difficult time parting with them. We both enjoy eating out and trying new foods, getting together with our Do Nothingclubs, and just taking life with a grain of salt each day. My cats, Sprinkles and April are my little world. I would like to add cat number 3 someday soon.

I'd rather have...

I'd rather have chocolate than anything with a mint flavor. Chewing gum with full blown sugar over any kind of tea. Floral stickers rather than anything Halloween. I'd rather have children's books than any kind of popular fiction, westerns, or supernatural books. I'm really not into the abstract and with these new pocket pages prefer the whimsical, floral, quotations, rainbows, hearts, food, Christmas, spring, kittens, teddt bears, sunshine, pansies, lily-of-the-valley, and happy things. I'd really love long term penpals that like to chat the night away. Give me kitties, and leave the dogs to those who like to hear a good bark. I love to eat and compare restaurant and take out eateries. I so enjoy recipes and recipe books that have stories in them about the foods served to families. A handwritten recipe over a computer generated one is divine. There's something about handwriting that to me is intriguing and also historical.

POSTCARDS...I like general tourist trap cards.cards with recipes, humorous , and those that exaggerated life such as the world's largest ear of corn, the world's largest fish etc. I do prefer naked.

Anything with a Christian motif also pleases me whether it be gospel tracts, poetry, Bible verses on stickers, notecards and stationery, miniature Bibles, and trinkets.

I am hopelessly hooked on calendars, date books, birthday books, Diaries, journals. I also enjoy lists of things, crossword puzzles, word games, Scrabble, and flower arranging. I do not like going to the dentist, seeing the doctor on such a frequent basis, or folding the laundry. I enjoy organizing my stuff and playing with my questions on a rainy day.
