I am a seamstress, crafter and Etsy seller (with over 500 sales, yay!). I love earth-friendly things, vintage things, cute things, weird things, and artsy things.
I have literally tons of stuff to swap (self-professed pack rat, here), including supplies for just about every craft imaginable, vintage findings, etc. etc. I am interested in the same... but mostly I'm interested in having fun with SwapBot!
Indie, 80s, electro...
Fave groups/bands/artists include:
Sigur Ros
Depeche Mode
MGMT
The Knife
Fever Ray
Missing Persons
iliketrains
I am really not a huge fan of reading... but I have a nice library of mostly reference-type-stuff for the activities that I'm interested in...
...books about knitting
...books about running a crafting business
...books about fashion design
...books about felting
...illustration books
...art books (Edward Gorey... yaya!)
Gosh... this list is sooooo long because I have a HUGE collection of VHS tapes that would probably make you sigh. But I'll condense it just to my all-time faves...
The Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Legend .... ..... do you see a theme here?
Conan the Barbarian
anything about/based on Jane Austen
I am a HUGE fan of vintage colors and vintage color combinations.
Like olive green with faded hot pink, mustardy yellow and burnt orange, teal blue and mint green. I use vintage fabric and reclaimed materials in my line of work... and I love it all. If you're making something for me out of fabric, I'd love for that fabric to be repurposed from something else (like an old tablecloth remade into something else, or a skirt that had a stain on it used to make a good usable item).
I also really like some of the "kawaii" fabric that's out there... fabric with matrioshkas on it, fabric with little deer or mermaids on it...you know, cute stuff.
But... because I am a fiber artist, there are just some "types" of fabric I cannot stand...
*please no Amy Butler fabric... or Lily Pulitzer fabric... or Waverly fabric. These are just not my cup of tea in terms of style. *please no "Disney" fabric... or any cartoon character fabric for that matter, unless it is authentically vintage like smurfs or star wars or something. *please no corduroy (I don't wear or use corduroy for anything... and I'm not particularly fond of it for purses or pouches either... just a preference thing). *please no tie-dye. I know I like earth-friendly things, but I'm really just not into tie-dye.
sewing, needle felting, eco-crafts, fusing plastic, jewelry-making, drawing, mixed-media art, paper crafts (I don't actually scrapbook but I do love to make my own cards for gifts, and i love to have pretty paper things around for that), stamp carving, painting
Some other things I'm currently digging include:
Owls
Foxes
Whales
Deer
Lions
"baby" animals... think cuteoverload.com or icanhascheeseburger.com
Aprons! I love the ones that are just over-the-top cute with tons of rikrak and lace (think June Cleaver on LSD... haha!)
I'm sort-of a typical indie-chick... I love Etsy and thrift shopping, but in terms of style I could always find something for myself at Urban Outfitters or Modcloth.com
I also really like bicycles, gardening (at least I'm trying to not kill some plants), cooking.
Some of the things that just aren't "me" include:
frogs
fairies
angel-related stuff
americana things
I'm super into being earth-friendly, but I don't like Hippie-culture stuff like tie-dye, dead-head stuff, patchouli, etc.
raw celery
raw carrots (unless it's on a salad and smothered in Ranch dressing)
... my husband and I are hoping to move to Europe some time soon (like in the next 5 years)... so anything related to that (especially related to Finland because the husband is bonkers for Finland) is A-OK in our book!
*Anything that's bath and body and also either natural or handmade (as long as it's not patchouli-scented). Like...cold-processed soaps, scented oils, handmade bath bombs, handmade lip balms, lotions, salts, smelly-good things... you get the point. I only ever buy soap if it's handmade... and I love samples and small amounts!
*Chocolate, candy, dried fruit...I have an insatiable sweet-tooth and I love it all... even those chalky things and those weird black and orange nougat things you get at Halloween.
*Anything all-natural, organic, recycled, repurposed, upcycled, earth-friendly, or for a good cause.
*Moon pads (If you're familiar with these and if you can sew I love them handmade, and I'm not particular on the style as I'm trying out different ones) .
*Hair clips... major props for big flowers :)
*Your favorite blend of cooking spices - the husband and I eat a lot of meat and we're always looking for ways to "spice" it up.
*Coffee, tea, honey, cocoa
*Neat "regional" things... Neither of us get to do a lot of traveling- so if there's something your little town or big city is known for, share it with us! Like recipes, photographs, seeds, pressed leaves or flowers, etc.
*Paper products and stickers for card-making
*Vintage buttons
*Curious vintage, antique or handmade objects. Our main hallway in our house is a sort-of museum complete with curio boxes, art-work, and figurines on shelves... the more curious the better!
