I'm a former swapper coming back after about 5 years. I'm a teacher by profession, currently a homemaker, living with my hubby, cat and 2 ferrets, and we're expecting our first non-furry child in April. :-)

I have BA degrees in Spanish and Philosophy (focusing on ethics and political philosophy), and a MA in TESOL (Teaching ESL). I love languages, basically, everything from how they're constructed to what the words say about the speakers and the deep thoughts we try to convey.

I love to journal, cook (vegetarian) and bake, read, and spend time in nature as the weather allows. I'm a planner geek as well. I also enjoy playing board and card games with hubby and friends, and I attempt cross stitch projects from time to time. I speak Spanish mostly fluently, and I love learning new words or phrases in other languages too.

Some absolute, re-re-read it favorites: The Earth's Children Series by Jean M Auel, The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King, anything by Margaret Atwood, Ana Maria Matute or Starhawk.

I love receiving book recommendations, especially in the sci-fi/speculative fiction, lit fic, and poetry genres. I'll read just about anything that makes me think or lends itself towards conversation and analysis.

Now that I've got a kid on the way, I've been more interested in children's lit, and I've been reading or re-reading some classics as I build a mini library in the nursery.

When it comes to swaps, I prefer to receive artsy or funny cards over touristy ones. I appreciate when the sender takes a moment to write a quote/lyric/personal note/interesting fact/etc on simple postcard swaps. As the swap allows, I'm not opposed to receiving anything mature or R-rated in terms of images on the cards, etc.

I'm not overly blessed with creative genes, but I do try to make swaps interesting, personal, and I try to be detail-oriented. :-)

I love to watch movies, especially foreign films (foreign horror anyone?) and documentaries (historical and social). I'm not super boring though, and I appreciate a solid action (Mad Max Fury Road rocked my socks), comedy (I'll never turn down another rewatch of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) or sci-fi (just.. all of them) flick just as much. I'm less into chick-flicks as I get older, but I still have some guilty pleasures.

When it comes to TV, I'm sort of everywhere thanks to Netflix. I've immersed myself in the Whedonverse (can't take the sky from me!), spent an entire summer living through a decade of Supernatural, gotten bloody at war with Vikings, and wasted hours of my life watching reality TV while in the kitchen.
