Hello! I am a social worker and therapist in rural Oklahoma. I am completing my masters degree while working full time and being a mom. I actually heard someone at work mention Swap Bot and I looked it up right away. I LOVE arts and crafts and cannot wait to get involved in some of these really cool swaps. I love the country life and simplicity. I wish we could live like they did in the 1800s. I avoid modern technology and appreciate knowing your neighbors and spending time with friends and families. I was definitely born after my time. My favorite colors are pink and green and I love the outdoors and camping.
Please do not be alarmed by my newbie status. I know that I automatically cannot be a part of some REALLY cool swaps because of it, but life shall go on. I do not sign up for things that I will not finish. Letting people down is something that I never do.
I am just now at a point in life and my career where I am learning the therapeutic aspect of art, and I LOVE IT! I always thought art therapists were a bunch of "hippies" (and I hope you find this misunderstanding as humorous as I do) and have since learned how ridiculous that idea is. I am very excited to do more art, have a reason to, and incorporate it into working with others who can benefit from the experience as well.
I love art and making things. I do a lot of DIY home decor and birthday parties. I LOVE repurposing items from the thrift store or just restoring them. I make doll clothes for my nieces and do everything from knitting and sewing to art therapy with my clients. I am constantly learning something new and am excited to start collecting work from other people as well!
I love classic literature, mostly Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Steinbeck. I could read a Tale of Two Cities and the Grapes of Wrath over and over and never be without a thirst for more.
On a more modern note I also love political thrillers by Joel Rosenberg. I do not know that it is so much the content as it is the story telling. He is lyrical to say the least.
I was asked to divulge some more about myself, so I shall try. I ache for those in need. I always lived with the dream of getting into law school. I did at 22 and decided that there was more for me out there and never went. I turned to family therapy and social work and have found passion in homelessness and rural poverty and mental health. Everyday I wake up to serve others, and I love it. On bad days I remind myself that we are to live like the example that was set before us when Jesus was on earth. I fail miserably, but I try.
I tend to love the culture and tradition of the 1920s era in Chicago. I visited there in high school as my graduation present and was immediately consumed with a culture that existed 80 years before I was there.
As I have gotten older and had my own little girl and dove into social work I am enjoying simplicity and learning the importance of our narrative. I just hope that I am writing inspirational comedy rather than a heart broken tragedy.
Likes: Rainbows, stars, unicorns, Lisa Frank, dogs, glitter, 1920s vintage fashion, pinstripe, black, grey, pink, vintage photography, flowers, robots, monsters, cute characters.
Dislikes: Butterflies, bunnies, horses, cats, red.
