I've been looking around the web all day and on this blog specifically. Another orphan blog, but it was enough to keep my interest.

One of the things at attracted me was her casually explaining the symbolism of the carvings. Frankly, I don't know how accurate she was, but it was enough to prompt this swap.

Let's look for Masons. Free Masons, Odd Fellows, Scottish Rite, take your pick, heck Eastern Star too! I don't want to say any secret society...yet. Let's see how this one goes.

Because we're hunting on this one, I'll give us plenty of time. So, watch it and I'll send out a reminder in like a month. ;-)

Okay, I am having no luck with this but rather than delete I'm adding an internet hunt clause. SO! If, like me, you come up empty with a live search, feel free to hit the web for an image to share.

If this is unacceptable, I completely understand. No hard feelings. ;-)

I'm actually having a hard time with this one (NOT that I'm ready to throw in the towel or anything!)

I went today to a Catholic cemetery SURE that finding Masons would be a non-issue. I stopped the car beside 2 cemetery employees and asked if they could point me in the direction of any Masons. They said it was a Catholic cemetery, ergo, no Masons. I was like 0_o. So I drove around and took pictures, and sure enough, did not see a single Mason.

After lunch with my sister (freshly back from Greece) I decided to take the bull by the horns and visit the Masonic Temple in Morristown. Sadly, it wasn't open. But I'll try again.

Weird, huh?

I found n email address and dropped them a line. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

My new town has many Anabaptists (Mennonites, Church of the Brethren, etc.) and I don't think they liked Freemasonry too much either! I did find one masonic grave at an old Church of Christ graveyard and am going to try for more now at a public graveyard.

Sebastian122, I had a former supervisor who was Roman Catholic and since her father had strong civic ties in the small town where we lived, I asked if he was a Freemason. She looked at me like I was crazy and said no way was he a Mason since they were Catholic. I think Roman Catholics have Knights of Columbus that is kind of like freemasonry. :)

The masons was started as somewhat of a secret society and it is protestant ONLY. This is mostly a christian origanization and beyond my why the secrets but you must be one to even look at their books which by the way is just a bible. Eastern Star is for women from this group. While still stuck in the 1500's they must and can only do what is set forth or allowed by the masons.

For Catholics they too have a similar group as this and you may have heard of them but they are referred to as, the Knights of Columbus. I don't know the womens groups for this.

Both of these are christian driven and from the old testament. The main difference between the groups is just catholism or protestant.

Hope this helps on your searches.

Sadly, the mason has not gotten back to me.

As for the Roman Catholic issue, it's actually a problem with me. I was raised Roman Catholic and in my head RC=Christian. I have a hard time remembering there are other branches out there. lol@me

Thank you both for the help. ^ __ ^

Something to be on the lookout for, is a cross inside a crown. It can symbolize Christianity in general, but it was also sometimes used to denote a member of the York Rite Masons. A little more subtle than the G inside the compass like in your picture above, and possibly easier to find?

The Masons are mostly very old and so few of their kids and or grandkids have accepted the passage as they did from their parents. My grandparents as well as my Dad were very high up in the Masonic Lodge in Ohio and West Virginia. My brother lost his right by marrying a catholic. I lost mine by marrying something other than a WASP.

However, the temples at this point are still there with their dwindling participants.

All of the groups require strict cohesiveness to the rules.

You should be able to find tons on the net about the Masons, and the Knights of Columbus by using tombstone, gravestone, headstone, gravestone art. ect.

Happy Hunting!
