Description:

I like my postcards naked, stamped, and hand cancelled at the post office!! For this swap you will have 3 partners.

~You will send them one bought postcard.... sender's choice, (but it's always nice to check your partner's profile :^).

~Include a nice note on each one.

~Address the cards, stamp them, and send them naked (no envelope).

~The only real catch is that they have to be HAND CANCELLED AT THE POST OFFICE (not the machine cancellation)...so this will take a little effort. These can't be just dropped in the mailbox...you have to actually walk into the PO and ask for it to be hand cancelled. Why do I like this so much? Because you can actually read where the PC is coming from and the date it was sent ;^)

Now I know some of you cannot get to a post office....so this swap is not for you...so sorry this time!! Please, no special requests....just follow the specs above....easy!!! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Newbies are welcome with a well-filled out profile. Others should have no recent 1s....I have the right to ban at my discretion. Please do not join if you don't think you can fulfill the requirements!! Now....gather those postcards and have fun!! ;^)

Forgive me, I'm not sure what 'hand canceled' means. To me, canceled means that it would no longer be valid. Like when you cancel a check, it's not valid to be cashed. I'd like to join this swap, I just want to make sure I understand correctly first :) Thanks!

No problem at all! When I want a hand cancellation, I take my mail into the post office and I ask the person at the desk to hand cancel my mail. They actually have a rubber stamp (for lack of better words) that has the city, state, zip code, and date and they hand cancel the stamps on my mail (using that rubber stamp) and put them in the outgoing mail for me. I think the ladies at my PO refer to is as a "round stamp", too, I believe. Hope this helps!

"Because you can actually read where the PC is coming from and the date it was sent." For this very reason I obtained a permit to cancel my own mail; I hate the new inkjet cancels. Anyone can get a permit; see http://www.mppclub.org for a how-to guide.

I've got an MPP too and was thinking about joining this swap because it's been a while since I used it!!

The postal clerks this morning were very curious about how often my "hand cancelled" mail gets through without getting overcancelled. Apparently, their success rate has not been all that great. They say that the tracking for how much "work" gets done is different for machined mail vs metered mail, and that there is big pressure to run everything through the machines.

For first day issues, they see a lot of people hand-cancelling the mail then putting it in a cellophane or glassine envelope. I never feel right sending a postcard in an envelope. It takes away from the post-cardy-ness of it.

My cards are in the mail today. Hand cancelled, and put in the metered mail box. I'd be curious to know how many people get over cancels.
