Description:

For this swap you will send 1 perzine made by you to each of 3 partners. It should be at least 8 pages long. It's ok if you've never made a zine before and just want to try it out. Also if you're a seasoned zine writer and have already made one or more feel free to send ones you already have. The only requirement is that it be made by you

Not sure what constitutes a perzine?

From Wikipedia:

Perzines are a genre of zines; the "per" meaning "personal". Although most zines could be considered personal in that they represent the opinionated work of one person, this term describes zines that are written about one's own personal experiences, opinions and observations. This genre has become increasingly popular within the zine community and is probably the largest used format for zines today.

In many ways, the perzine could be considered the paper predecessor to the blog.

Swappers with a rating of at least 4.8 and at least 5 rated swaps (not counting email, letter, and postcard swaps) are welcome. I reserve the right to ban swappers at my own discretion.

I'm new to zines but would love to do this one. But how personal should we get? Is it anything to do with you, like what you like to do, what your daily life consists of or what your life has been like? or anything you like?

crweixelman 11/19/2007 #

Libralady, I'll leave that totally up to you. It's fairly loosely defined, so I think anything to do with you ought to be fine.

I have never made a zine, and have been curious when I read about zine swaps. I would love to try something new. Are there any web sites about zines that might help me get started?

Thanks so much!

There's lots of sites out there. This one seems pretty good.

Also you might want to check out my Poetry Zine swap. If making a whole perzine seems a bit daunting then you may find it easier to do one with just 8 poems. :)

Never made a zine before, but I'm going to jump in with both feet, since this one is open (no specific topic). I've been looking for more writing opportunites on here, this should be a fun challenge.

I understand that it should be 8 pages or more, but how big does it need to be? Like a regular magasine, or wold 5x7 be o.k.?

FarStarr 12/13/2007 #

I had planned on making it from 8 1/2 by 11 paper folded on half. I hope that is good...

Any size you like is fine :)

Very excited about this one...

I was just thinking last night about doing a zine, this will be my first, very exciting!

Are zines just writing or can you put in some altered art on the pages to go with the writing? (similar what you'd do on an ATC)

crweixelman 01/ 1/2008 #

many zines have art in them! There are really no boundaries as to what can be included.

Here's a link to a Youtube video that was provided for a 'zine swap I was in before....

It definitely helped me, I hope it helps for all of you!

Duh..I even made a paper mock-up so I would get the pages in order correctly...and still screwed it up when I was creating pages in my publishing program. I'm having fun though!!!

PoMoGolightly 02/ 6/2008 #

FarStarr, you answered my question before I could even ask it, which was whether it was cool to print out the zines or if they had to be hand lettered...Thanks, now I don't have to feel dumb and ask the question, lol!

FarStarr 02/ 9/2008 #

I did print mine on the computer. I know that some zines are photocopied. I added a few elements after printing. I'm really kinda impressed with myself :). This was fun!

sararenee 02/10/2008 #

I just had a thought... Does anyone else from this swap want to trade zines?

FarStarr 02/12/2008 #

I wouldn't mind swapping zines, but It looks like we have a bunch of people that still haven't sent their zines in the first place...:(
