This is the best example I could find for what this swap is about. Please check out this book by seeing a free preview, Click a Look Inside. Here are also more examples from the the book linked above of the mail from other artists.

The address area must be illustrated. Original works & designs only. Please keep addresses clear & legible so your mail art has a better chance of making it to its destination. Optional: Entire mail art piece may be decorated if artist (sender) chooses to do so. The word "Empty" may be used in in work is artist (sender) chooses to incorporate the message.

The artistic rendering & style is the artist's (sender's) choice. Keep in mind that your art will be facing the Postal Service/Public. Make something you would be proud to trade or matte & frame for your own wall, this is for 1 quality illustrated mail art piece, for 1 partner.

Illustration techniques may include watercolor, pen and ink, airbrush art, markers, ink painting, graphite, acrylic painting, oil painting, pastels, wood engraving, linoleum cuts, monoprint/monotype printmaking, etc. Depending on your mediums of choice, if you are using waterbased inks/paints, please use a finish or seal for your mail art project to protect your work from smudging in transit.

4.9 or higher are welcome, no unexplained 3s or 1s, I will be checking profiles before the swap begins. Since this is a larger project for me & many of you & this is also a risk since this is naked mail art. Please try to keep an image record of what you have sent to your partner in case your project is lost in transitt. I will try my best to make arrangements for angeling if the need arises but, I cannot promise an angeling from me personally. I'm sorry, newbies without a 10 or more snail mail ratings on Swapbot will not be accepted in this swap.

Thank you for your participation & I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have about this swap.

I have a couple of questions :) First, what does the word "empty" mean? Second, you said you want us to mail it empty and sealed?? you want us to seal the envie after we've decorated it? Just wanna be clear :)

Oops, I'm sorry, I answered your email but, not here a few days ago. I had not realized that you also posted the inquiry under the swap, sorry about that. Here was my answer for those concerned: "In mail art, many artists will use the surface of the envelope, box, or flat as the canvas & do not fill the package/envelope & leave it empty & sealed. Actually, depends on the artist, I like to seal & prep my mail piece before I begin illustrating on my canvas (mail piece)." & here is what else I said that may help participants, "Oh yes, you can put something inside if you want (& even hint that something is inside, @Chavve usually inserts ATCs & more art inside for instance, too) but, please keep in mind that these are used as canvases, so most people do not want to open these if it will ruin the art on them. ;)"

Thanks for participating & have fun! :)
