Description:

Let's make a matchbox with a pop up element on the cover. In the photo, I've made a very simple pop up top for my matchbox cover. Instructions to follow. You do not have to make your box using the same technique I did but it must include a functioning pop up element that raises part of the box or embellishment at least 1/2".

If you'd like to make the MB yourself and have a scoring board, I've got a YouTube video you can see. Go to Rebeccacell channel on YouTube and look for Make a Matchbox using a Scoring Board or use Rachel's Template

*Stickers, AS ACCENTS, should be limited to high quality scrapbooking or card making stickers, not the kind meant for kids or teacher’s reward stickers.

*If you use rubber stamping, please stamp cleanly; missed areas or double lines are not acceptable. Please do not use computer generated images or sentiments because I have been very disappointed by images printed in very poor quality lately. (If you print them well using very good quality paper and ink, your partner won’t know and can’t rate you badly for it can they?? Wink wink!)

*Please make a beautiful matchbox you are proud of and would be thrilled to receive. The matchbox must include a total of at least 3 layers and/or embellishments. Make sure your work is clean and precise. No glue should show and straight cuts need to be straight.

*Please don't be discouraged by my rules. I am only referring to general tidy practices, not tiny flaws. I've received a card so saturated with glue I could knock on it and get hollow noises! I've received a note book with edges that looked like they had been cut with a saw! I just expect tidy work!

*Please check your partner’s profile for dislikes and avoid those. For instance, do not use bright orange, green or blue on mine as that is on my profile.

*Please fill the matchbox with things that are colour or theme appropriate. No need to pack it tight but fill nicely.

*Please have a 4.97+ rating to join and no 1's EVER or 3's in the last 6 months. I will accept explanations of course, PM me ahead of the sign up deadline. Newbies are welcome with WELL FILLED out profiles (About Me, Likes, Dislikes at least) and MUST PM me at least 3 days before the end of the swap to show good intentions. A newbie is someone with less than 5 completed and rated type 2 or 3 swaps. If you see a flaker has joined, don't worry, I will weed them out. If you are really worried, give me a heads up! I’ve been flaked on so many times, I've stopped keeping track, so I get it!

Instructions for Rebecca's Pop Up Matchbox Cover

  1. You must make your own cover. As I make them, my matchbox bottom measures 1/2" x 2" x 1.5" so the cover directions will fit this. Adjust if needed.

  2. Cut your cover cardstock to just a smidge over 1.5" wide and about 8" long. Score your cover at just over each of the following measurements. (my video shows how and why I score each line just over the measurement). 1/2", 2", 1/2", 2", 1/2" then cut at 2". You will have a bit left over.

Please note: This cover fits opposite to most covers. as you can see from the photo, my drawer pulls out from the long side. This is what worked for the image I chose. If you want to make a traditional cover with the drawer pulling out from the short end, use the following measurements. Cut paper to just over 2" wide and 6.5" long. Score at just over each of the following measurements: 1/2", 1.5", 1/2", 1.5", 1/2" then cut at 1.5".

  1. Wrap the cover around your base. You will adhere the cover at the side instead of at the bottom as usual. The last measurement you cut will be the pop up element. Nice thing is, unless you embellish like crazy, you can mail as usual! Mine even fit under the thickness restriction for light packet in Canada (for more info, see mailing MBs in the forums).

Enjoy, Rebecca
