Description:

This is an altered version of a swap hosted by @AlyssD and she has given me permission to host it here. I thought it would be a great, fun swap for this group!

This swap is inspired by the book: “Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure” (Harper Collins, 2008).

Here's the twist...it's NOT YOUR MEMOIR. Pick one of your favorite characters from a YA book and write a six-word memoir from his or her point of view. :-) You will write their memoir in only 6 words on the back of a postcard and send it to two partners. Six words—no more, no less. Postcard is sender’s choice.

Think of the character's life and sum it up in 6 words…it’s easier said than done…but fun!

For inspiration, look at this site Here are some great ones:

Painful nerd kid, happy nerd adult. - Linda Williamson

Extremely responsible, secretly longed for spontaneity. - Sabra Jennings

The psychic said I'd be richer. - Elizabeth Bernstein

RECAP:

• Write a memoir from a character's point of view from a YA novel using 6 words (no more, no less)

• Write the title of the book and the character's name

• Write the memoir on a PC of your choice

• Send PC to your two (2) partners

Group guidelines apply. I will angel this if necessary. Newbies welcome. Don't just jot down six words. Put some thought into this…it should be super fun & interesting.

If this swap goes well, I might make it a series...there are SO many books and characters I want to do! :-)

I know...it's harder than it looks. But there are SO many characters and so many memoirs...I can't make up my mind! I've tried some already and they are really fun. :-)

I have obsessively been reading the books edited together by Larry Smith. Can't wait to do this!

Ogma 04/26/2011 #

Ah...thanks for giving Larry his props. ;-) I actually haven't read this one, just loved the idea. I had heard about it and the genre of "flash fiction". My friend is actually published in hint fiction Fun reading.

I hope those watching will join us in this one! I'm really looking forward to seeing what people come up with.
