While you don't need to use this design, I thought you might like a tute. You'll need to make 3 of these as postcards 4x6-one for each partner! It's kind of like doodling with your machine!

This looks interesting. I'm going to have a little go before signing up and inflicting my 'works of art' on someone!

I am also going to make an attempt before committing. I have a feeling all will go well though. =)

Another method is to put a paper picture on the BACK and 'sketch' around the picture. Turn it over and whala! An amazing sketch appears. (How do you spell 'whala'? woi la, whoi la? .....

Oh, and I always use a pice of interfacing on the back to be sure it doesn't pucker. You can look at the backs of some of my postcards on my flickr page from my link on my profile here to see how they can turn out. I do use my darning foot with my presser foot down because I don't have to turn so many corners, but you can see by the tute that it isn't necessary. (I really like the word 'tute'! Happy sketching!

I wish I could edit my comments. It would save having to put 3 to get my point across. I only have one 'sketch' in my ATC and Postcard set. Look for the flying raven, the sketch is on the photo right next to it. I think I have another back for a small wall hanging. It may be in the quilting or things I made set.

Loved the tutorial! Really made me feel like it's possible for regular mortals.

magpie: voila. That's how you spell it. Common misspelling is viola, which is something else entirely :^)

Patrice 01/21/2011 #

I cannot wait to do this one. Something new. Kool!

magpie55 01/22/2011 #

Thanks camelsamba!! Viola is a flower. I shall practice writing voila ...voila...voila........

knitmom7: This should be a Type 3 swap. Even though it is flat mail, it still requires considerable crafting/handwork. I would suggest that all swaps in this group should be Type 3s. (";)

TerryF 01/30/2011 #

voila, pronounced "vwah--lah", translated as "There it is!" (";)

magpie55 02/ 6/2011 #

Thanks TerryF. I knew what it meant, just couldn't for the life of me remember how to spell it. voila...voila...voila....

viola is also a musical instrument - that's what I was thinking of, since it's what my 13yo son plays!
