Face it... many of us who drink wine really don't have the wherewithal for picking just the right vintage of wine, so we buy for the cool label. Why not share those labels! Peel the label off a bottle of wine (I usually bake the empty bottles for 10 minutes or so and then very carefully remove the labels using silicone mitt to steady bottle and just the tip of my nail to start the peeling), apply to a postcard side card that you have prepared in any artistic way you want (just a label on cardstock can be nice, but it is more interesting to add a bit of embellishment), write a message, add postage and off it goes. It is more fun to get postcards that have seen more than the inside of an envelope, so make sure your creation is sturdy enough to be mailed as a postcard. Start emptying those bottles!

What a great idea!

I have one question- what temp do you "bake" your bottle of wine at? I am dangerous around a stove- with my luck I will try it at too high a temp and it will burst into flames :)

Anyone else have any other suggestions for how to remove the label?

I bake them at 300F and I set a loud timer for 10 minutes and don't get involved in anything because I am afraid if I bake too long the labels will catch fire. The glass gets incredibly hot, so be careful!

Soaking works, too, but I am too impatient for that :)

Sometimes I soak, using hot water from the kettle, pouring in and around the bottle as it sits in a plastic pitcher. Some labels come off this way, some refuse to budge. Also, if there's cool gold embellishment, it sometimes goes funny in the water. Strong clear packing tape firmly burnished and left for a while (days for some labels!), can bring them up. But not always. It's a pain! If it ever cools down here, I'll try the baking thing.

Oh yeah, you can also try a heat gun to melt the adhesive, just be really careful - HOT!

We buy wine in the box, but there are still interesting lables and parts...is that OK?

I think box wine is fine for making postcards. And no soaking/heating required :)

I got a homemade card made from a box wine (California wine) from Finland today for another trade in Postcrossing.com forum. Cool card! Hope that the box wine lovers out there decide to participate.

The fact that twitter laid off 9% of its employees is sad to see. I just started off my search with Vintec, and that's when I came to know about what twitter did. It's unforgivable in my opinion.
