Description:

This is an international swap. Sorry, no newbies. Must have minimum 5 recent successful mailed swaps. No unexplained no-sends.

For this swap you will have one partner. You will send your partner handmade representations of TWO different goddesses. This is the minimum requirement. You may send more if you are inclined, and/or include non-handmade items in the package.

Any culture, any pantheon. I may do Mary myself, whatev.

What is a representation? An image/piece of art of some kind. An ATC, a paper collage... something sewn ... sculpture... drawing... embroidery...

You will include a letter or short note to your partner telling a little bit about why you picked these goddesses. And if it is not obvious... WHO they are.

No, you do not have to revere/worship any of these goddesses. They could simply be goddesses you are interested in, goddesses from the native folk ways of your country or area, goddesses you have studied in school or not.

FYI, your representation does not have to be "realistic". Abstract is fine.

I realize leaving this so open also leaves room for "inequality" for lack of a better term. It's not fair to create a goddess quilt for someone and get a bookmark in return. Yes, you might spend time creating something very elaborate and mail it out only to receive something that took 5 minutes. But I really don't want to restrict anyone's creativity by being more specific in the requirements. I just hope that people will be inspired.

You know, plus, I am really hoping to get a shrine, since I want one but can't join a swap for one since I have no idea how to make one! ha ha! But if I don't, I don't.

The only restriction I will place is..this is not an email swap and therefore you must make a physical object. The point is to make a physical manifestation of these goddesses in the world, and to spend time thinking about them, and to use your hands to make them manifest, and then to spread that across the world via mailing these items elsewhere.

[PS. This is not a swap for anyone of a particular religious persuation.]

Oooh cool swap idea... if we find out our partner actually worships a certain goddess, can we make them that goddess?

I'm going to assume that's a yes.

This swap is perfect for me. I love senders choice and I love Goddess representaions. I also love to see others peoples intrerpatations of Her. Also very glad to see that She doesn't have to look realistic, as in a copy of an established goddess. Mine are mostly the Goddess forms. Fun. Fun. Fun.

Oh Jesse that would be extremely thoughtful of you!!!

People can send me any goddess they like, and I will welcome Her into my home, since obviously, She wanted to be there.

But FYI, my own goddesses are:

  • The Shekhina
  • Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom
  • Inanna, Queen of Heaven
  • Isis
  • Lilith

I was personally thinking my partner might like a set of handmade goddess notecards, since I have the rubber stamps, and the items we send can be useful. hmmmm... we'll see!

I was going to make an attempt at a matchbox shrine... so I hope my partner doesn't mind if it's... not exactly the best ever... I will be trying my hardest, but it is my first try haha...

All goddesses are welcome, obviously... I don't worship any myself, but I like the mythology behind them, and love the art created about them... :D I'm fascinated by the ancient Greek goddesses, and a Mary object would be fun to receive as well. :D But really... any art you create, I will love... I just love handmade art.

And weren't we not supposed to post requests anyway? hmm... anything is welcome. :D

Oh I only put my goddesses up there bc yo made me think, what if someone wants to do mine??? They would not know who/what to do, since I don't have this on my profile and I don't want to add it.

However, I am expecting to get whatever people want to make or feel called to make.

I like all goddesses, into Greek ones mainly :) any representation of the Lady will be fine- but I will try to make something for my partner if they ask for it so please ask away!

I love this idea! Like Candy Star, I really like the mythology and artwork around all of the goddesses. Notecards, matchbox shrine, hmmmmm..... you all have good ideas already. Count me in!

Great idea! There should be more Goddess related swaps ;) There's a Goddess doll one I just signed up for too. I hope there are more later on or else I can host one.

I have a little something about my love for mythology in my profile in case my partner wants to read it. This is going to be really fun! I hope no flakers ruin it.

Any Goddess would be fine with me.

Tillie 08/26/2007 #

I must confess, my favourite gods and goddesses are the animal gods!

cerwinrhiannon 09/14/2007 #

A goddess quilt would be cool. I wonder if enough people would be interested in making a square each to try it.

cerwinrhiannon 09/18/2007 #

Mine are ready to go, and will be mailed to Alisa tomorrow.

Alisa 09/26/2007 #

Cerwinrhiannon sent me two absolutely beautiful goddesses, and a goddess/mermaid pendant too! She really inspired me to step up my goddess game...

Meadow, my dear, your goddesses will be making their way to you tomorrow. I hope you like them as much as I like the ones that I received.

Meadow 09/29/2007 #

Alisa, thanks! I was stupid and sick and spaced...I made two of the same items, thinking I had two partners. Duh! Now I have an extra. Oh well, I was really thinking these were pretty cool and I wouldn't get to keep one....

Now I have to come up with another project, like pronto! Durr!
