Description:

For this swap, you will take 2 bottle caps from any type of bottles (examples include but are not limited to:2 liter bottle tops, beer and soda metal caps, milk lids, soda can pull tabs, perfume bottle tops, wine corks, etc.) and make them over in to something else. I have seen these items turned in to great magnets, pin cushions, jewelry, etc. Use your creativity to transform 2 bottle tops into something fun for your one partner.

Thanks to @nmterrier for the suggestion. Have an idea, feel free to share it with me.

Looking forward to your creations. Have fun.

I would like to try something with the metal caps, but I don't know what kind of glue or resin to use. Does anyone have suggestions?

Diamond Glaze or Liquid Laminate

@Swan I actually use a 2 part resin -there are many different brands, found in hardware stores and some craft stores where you mix equal parts together, mix, and then use. I use Diamond Glaze more as a sealant than a filler. If you are just experimenting and want an easy sealer, then clear nail polish can work and you may already have it on hand.

What glue is best to use for metal pin backs to stick and stay on the back of bottle caps? Please and thanks. I can tell you elmers doesn't work :-)

I like e6000 glue or jewelry glue. The e6000 smells but it works wonderfully. If you can let it dry in a garage, laundry room, outside, then it is best (somewhere with a lot of ventilation) and the smell lessens over time.

Thank you wolfeagle. I will look for this e6000. I'm watching your bottlecap swap :-)

I glue everything with e6000!! I LOVE it! and it will totally glue magnets! To find a glue that will work you just have to read what it says it will glue on the back of the bottle. If it says metal, you're good!

hI ALL LOVE TO JOIN THIS ONE i USUALLY USE DEMENTINAL MAGIC. but a friend said liquid nails is great 4 putting brouch backs on. Can I squish the caps?

wolfeagle 05/11/2010 #

I love liquid nails also...though I dont use it often. It works great for putting mirrors on a surface, etc, as it will never come off. You can squish your bottle caps....it's fun.
