Description:

Have an opinion you want to share? A confession? Idea? Send a message to the postie. Your postcard message should be designed to make its numerous readers along the international journey think, feel, blush – whatever. Make sure your message is provocative and insightful!

For this swap, write your message clearly on the back of a postcard addressed to the postman/woman – hopefully it will be read and enjoyed by postal staff internationally before getting to it’s final destination!

You will have two partners, and the postcards you send will be up to you. If you’d like, check your partner’s profile for postcard inspiration. But ultimately remember the cards are senders choice!

You’ve got to have a 4.9 rating and no recent threes or ones without a genuinely good explanation. Please PM me with details. Newbies are definitely welcome, but please have a well filled out profile. I’ll be banning anyone who doesn’t meet these requirements or seems like a flaker.

I hope everyone has fun! Please contact me with any questions, suggestions and so on :-)

any ideas of what messages to write

Hairsprayqueen 04/24/2010 #

Sure, I'll give you some broad examples:

You might like to make a comment about a political or global issue you feel strongly about. Maybe you'd like to raise awareness about a cause, you could use statistics in your message.

A confession or thought is a pretty obvious suggestion - just a personal comment that fits the criterea of 'provocative and insightful'.

Just make sure your message makes the postie feel something, or react - not just 'Hi!' Think of this as an oppurtunity to make a real and personal statement!

(Does that help?) Let me know guys! :-)

Any idea what language to write this message in? For example, I wouldn't count on my local posties understanding English (they are mainly older generation who often were not taught English in school), so it would be nice if my partners would also add a Latvian or at very least a Russian translation.

Hairsprayqueen 04/24/2010 #

Ah, you've posted an interesting question @pahasiga It would be nice to add a translation designed for your partner/the posties, but the problem with that is that online translators aren't always accurate.

Um! Perhaps write an english message with a translation if your partner requests it. Remember, before your mail gets sent it will be presumably seen by various people in your own country first.

I'll edit the swap so that swappers from a non english speaking country should leave a comment if they want a translation :-)

Another option might be to handmake a card with a message in english on one side, and in your countries native language on the other

(Is this getting too confusing? It might be best to stick to using english only this time 'round)

This sounds like a neat swap, but I'm a little confused as to how we are to address our post cards in terms of the mailing address. Can someone pls explain exactly how to address the card to both the "postie" (I'm assuming that means "postal worker") and our assigned partner? Thanks a bunch and Happy Swapping! :) Karen

Lieve 04/25/2010 #

I don't think it's really adressed to the postal worker, but that we all hope that, since the card has to be send naked, that it can and will be read by various people before the card reaches your actual partner to whom you addressed the card.

Hope I make some sense :-) And sorry if my interpretation was wrong.

Hairsprayqueen 04/25/2010 #

Yep! That's right @Lieve

Your message is addressed to the postal worker and the card is sent to your partners :-)

suebdynamo 04/29/2010 #

er.. 'addressed' as in 'written to' the address is the swap partner. great idea! i have no idea what to say, but it probably depends on where it's going.

Ok, thanks for the help, everyone. :)

Hey everyone...I hope this is along the same guild lines....my postie's take a lot of crap from most of the town...I took this opportunity to send them a nice quote along with a "you guys are fabulous" note...its not really provocative, but it is insightful, and will make their day. Hope this works...:)
