Description:

This swap is for those new to the wide wonderful world of ATC's (artist trading cards).

I just recently got into this myself and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Simple pen-and-paper cards are a project I can take anywhere or I can get more intricate and use cut paper, photos, collage or whatever I'd like to experiment with next. I'm finding it's a great way to try out new techniques without committing to a full-size project as well.

The subject of the card will be something that makes you (the sender) happy. You can use any media/materials you feel comfortable with, but please put some thought into it and make a card you'd be happy to receive. To make this an easy swap for newbies, you will send one card to one partner. I am leaving lots of time for this swap so you don't need to feel rushed and have plenty of time to make a card that really pleases you.

The card should be 2.5x3.5 inches, and any media maybe used as long as it fits into a standard trading card sleeve (think plastic sleeves used to store/protect baseball cards). You should use a sturdy card for backing (I use cut up cereal boxes to back my cards, or heavy card stock)

This swap is open to everyone with a well-filled-out profile, but please be mindful of your partner and don't flake. If I have problems with you during this swap, I will ban you from my future swaps.

Please message me or leave a comment if you have any questions. As this is my first time coordinating a swap, I am making this a US-only swap.

I'm not a newbie, but I would love you join you...just to see what I get in the mail. Love the experience of "new" art. See you soon.

eviebits 01/24/2010 #

You are most welcome. I hope that this swap will encourage people to try something new (first ATC, first swap, or just trying a new artistic style or medium) and spread around that little "new" thrill. I'm relatively new to making ATC's and I'm just having a blast trying new things. :)

I am so excited about this! I have just discovered the world of ATC's and they are pretty addicting. lol. I have never swapped them before so I'm excited =)

Onaki 01/25/2010 #

If you don't mind me joining I'd like to join. I'm not new but I love ATC's. :)

Go for it! I want everyone to have fun!

I am also new to ATCs.. All my friends are making them so Iwant to try too. I am very experienced with paper crafts though so hopefully I will come out with a good one :)

What a great swap idea, looking forward to it!

Vendetti 02/ 2/2010 #

I'm so glad I found this swap. I've been wanting to try my hand at ATCs but I don't want to send a lame newbie one to such an expert.

Pickly572103 02/ 2/2010 #

Great! This swap is perfect for me!

eviebits 02/ 3/2010 #

All great artists were once lame newbies. :) Really, I want people to have fun with this and be fearless! I'm trying something new for my card and a little nervous about sharing it, but that's what makes it exciting!

I'm so excited! I've been wanting to make ATCs for a while now but didn't want to join regular ATC swaps - I don't know if I am any good at ATCs and didn't want to end up with a bad rating or something! I just made my ATC for this swap!

wolviechick121 02/ 3/2010 #

Please do another of these when you can. I've always wanted to get in to ATCs, but like I've been reading elsewhere, I'm afraid to join main ones until I've had some practice. =P I can't join yet 'cause I just have a bunch of other crafting swaps going on now, so I don't wanna put too much stress into meeting the deadline for the sends. =P So please do another one of these so I can join it next time! =D Thanks!!!

Question about ATC sleeves. I think my only bet to find real ones is online, and I'm not gonna count on the USPS to get them here in time for me to use for this swap. Any suggestions for MacGyvering sleeves (much like using cut-up cereal boxes for backing)?

TIA ^_^

eviebits 02/ 3/2010 #

The sleeves are not necessary - it is only a consideration that they fit in a sleeve since many people like to put them in plastic sleeves or pages like those used for baseball cards. If you're good with an exacto knife, you could probably cut some from said baseball card pages.

Emawee0307 02/ 4/2010 #

i find a quick way to put the sleeves on if you take page protecters and just slide them into it cutting around it so it has the two sides that are attached to the front and back it covers it up nicely. its a awesome thing to do when you have way to many page protecters from past school projects

My items are sent..... I'm excited! (Hope my partner likes what I sent.... this is a FUN new experience!!

bluepnut 02/ 6/2010 #

Kokonino, I make an ATC mailing holder out of a sheet of heavy craft paper that is cut the size of the long #10 envelope then folded in half. Inside the folded paper, I place the card in the middle of the RH side and I tape or glue 2 corner strips of paper or ribbon over the cards opposite corners but not touching the card with the glue. It's like home made photo corners. This protects it in mailing and makes a nice holder until the card is removed. Just be careful not to get corner strips stuck on the card itself. You'll see an example of this when you get mine ;-). I'm mailing it Monday.

JessieTea 02/ 7/2010 #

Mine is finished and sealed in the envelope... it'll be shipped tomorrow.

Kokonino 02/ 8/2010 #

Thanks to all for the ideas. bluepnut, I'm looking forward to seeing it! Thank you for being my partner. :)

Tinabear 02/16/2010 #

Sending out mine tomorrow, at the last minute! I made like three rough versions before I could decide on what to do! XD I was so nervous it wouldn't be good enough! Here's hoping :)
