Description:

A special hand-sewn Felt Envelope Card Keeper for cards and love letters, or for use as a Presentation Envelope to give to your special someone. I hate to inhibit artistic expression, so it is sender's choice as to color and design as long as it falls within the scope of the theme.

This is the the swap: 1) You will have one (1) partner to make one (1) felt envelope. The minimum size is 7 by 10 inches, made from any type of new felt (acrylic, wool), that you decorate and embellish with felt applique designs and other trims of your choosing. It can open from the end, the top, or the the side - but it does need to have a button closure to secure the opening.

2) Open to your artistic expression, but good sewing skills are a requirement. Weird is in the eye of the beholder, but sloppy work is always apparent. To send anything less than your best attempt to make your partner smile is not swapping to your full potential nor treating your partner right. Make your partner smile!

3) A requirement is that you send on time and don't mark sent until you do! I'm making this a requirement of the swap because of the rash of slackers who mark sent - then let weeks, and weeks go by before sending. If you send late your partner has every right to rate you a three for sending but not meeting the full requirements.

Swapper requirements: Rated 4.8 or higher and ZERO no-sends. You must have participated in 10 package-type swaps & rated for them. Agreement to meet the above swap description and requirements. No flakers, late senders and slackers.

Please, if you don't really have the time, you don't have the skills needed to complete this, or you've already signed up for a bunch of swaps don't sign up. I always check before assigning partners and drop anyone who has slipped in ratings or is posting on their profile that they will late in sending for any reason. I reserve the right to exclude anyone if I believe they will create problems for other swappers.

I always angel swappers who have been flaked on by their partner. PM me when you've rated your partner a one and I will angel you quickly. Flakers will be outed in the forums.

If you know that you don't meet the requirements, please don't try to sneak in by signing up anyways. Come on now, that just makes work for me when I have to bump you out of the swap.

I also do private swaps.

Some questions:

  • You say it is sender's choice as to colour and design, but call the swap "Buds & Blooms". Does this mean that I have to use a "Buds & Blooms" (e.g., flowers) theme? Or can I use any theme I like to decorate the envelope?

  • Can I make the closure any way I like, as long as it uses a button (such as ribbon wound around a button, or velcro with a button sewn on for decoration)? Or does it have to be a button and buttonhole closure?

Thx.

is there a tutorial on how to make on of these somewhere?

pearlie 01/13/2010 #

No tutorial that I'm aware of. I just started making these because I wanted to dress up the cards I give to friends.

This is a beautiful idea for a keepsake folder. I will see if I can actually make one and then sign up. Thanks for a great inspiration.

Here are @pearlie s replies to my questions:

  • I want to do more of these envelopes, but each swap in a theme. So for this first one I wanted flowers. Your choice of what type of fower, or even abstract flower and your choice of color schemes.

  • I like that type of closue you described. As long as the envelope closes and has a button then it works for me.

These tutes are NOT exactly the same as pearlie's envelopes, but they might give some inspiration/ideas:

Tute 1

Tute 2

As for the embellishments, there are tons of tutorials online for making felt flowers.

I looove anything felt and hope you do more of these swaps! I love this swap. Thanks for hosting

Thanks TerryF! Those are great sites and those designs will work too as long as they are big enough (7x10 inches) to fit most cards. Mine are just 2 pieces of felt, 7x10 inches. I applique whatever I want on one piece, lay them wrong sides together and blanket stitch around three sides leaving the end open. I sew on a button first and then cut the opening to fit that button on the opposite side. voila!

Great - now we have @pearlier s tutorial and it certainly sounds the easiest to me!

you can sew them like a checkbook cover is done and they work really well. i have to clear out some swaps and i'll sign up at that point. this sounds fun. especially for a monthly.
