Description:

This swap is for all you beginner quilt makers who want to get their feet wet.

The block for February is Baby Bud.

Baby Bud Pattern

You will make one block and have one partner.

It is senders choice for the colors. Make sure you use contrasting colors. Like dark blue and white or light pink and dark red. Please no NOVELTY fabrics. Novelties are Easter prints, kid prints, food prints, animal prints, etc. You can use floral prints and geometric prints. Just nothing that reads children blocks. ONLY USE 3 COLORS like in the picture.

Please try your very best to use a scant 1/4 inch seam allowance when constructing your blocks. The finished block should measure 12 1/2 inches when it is complete.

To make it easier for newbies, after you cut out your squares use a disappearing ink marker to draw your seam allowance. Then sew just next to the line, not on top of it. This will make it easier to learn the scant seam allowance. Please pm me with any questions. You can also measure from your needle over 1/4 of an inch and use masking tape as a guide.

Newbies are welcome. Please fill out your profile. Everyone has to start some where. Experienced swapper with a 4.8 or higher may join to. I will be checking profiles. Please no recent bad ratings. You have to be 30 days free of bad ratings.

UPDATE1/28/10---Please make a block you would like to receive. Lets keep any questionable fabric for something else. Please us color combination's that are pleasing to the eye. We want to be able to use these blocks. It is disappointing to get a block that you can't use. It will discourage people from wanting to join.

Oh, this sounds interesting!!! I am new at sewing, but have made a few items.

Did you just start this kind of swap, or is it ongoing? Are you planning on doing this 12 times? Just curious.

slewis234 01/13/2010 #

can there be more than 2 colors like your example shows? will you do a different pattern every month? i've been doing yo-yo quilts but want to start traditional quilts as well! this should be fun, have to clear some out so it's on my watch till then.

fabricmom 01/14/2010 #

As long as there is interest I will keep putting up a new swap each month.

fabricmom 01/14/2010 #

Yes this block can have 3 fabrics...I will edit that. Thanks.

ozduchess 01/15/2010 #

Love these blocks you're picking. I'm in, again:)

ozduchess 01/15/2010 #

Sorry, meant to ask - could you no. the swaps or something? Nearly didn't sign up 'cos thought I was already in it. You have to allow for us doofuss' :)

monaw2008 01/18/2010 #

I would love to have a white background - so I can use the block together with other swapped blocks :)

fabricmom 01/18/2010 #

I tried to add the month but it wouldn't let me....I will see if I can figure out a shorter title....

ozduchess 01/20/2010 #

Thanks for the #'s - it helps us "challenged" ones :)

ladydy5 01/21/2010 #

You did say Senders choice right?

fabricmom 01/22/2010 #

Yes the colors are sender's choice. You can suggest what colors you want but don't have to use those colors.

ladydy5 01/23/2010 #

Being a new quilter-sewer, I appreciate a beginners quilt block swap you have put up and intend on being in your other ones until I am excellent at it. Here's hoping we do not get too critical with what they receive. Did I scare anyone?

kjohnson65 01/26/2010 #

I would love red and white or combo of those colors.

fabricmom 01/28/2010 #

ladydy5...so glad you are joining us...my only suggestion is that we make something we would like to receive. Please don't use UGLY fabric. People want to be able to use these blocks. If you don't want it in your quilt chances are neither does anyone else. LOL.

jerih 01/30/2010 #

I would like olive greens

BJordan 02/ 1/2010 #

I would like a neutral-colored background, please.

Craftlover10101 02/ 1/2010 #

I'm coming over here cause this one looks a lot easier lol. Are we allowed to make suggestions on colors we like or patterns? I don't expect it but if my partner happens to have my likes that would be great. Just asking...TY

ocngrl 02/ 2/2010 #

I would love these in batiks, but I know thats not practical for some people....

ladydy5 02/ 2/2010 #

I love the title of these swaps> Beginners

renzplace 02/ 3/2010 #

Hi Holly, I missed the deadline again, sorry. If you have spare time, can I do a private swap for this one with you, or can I still joint the group. Thanks a heap Renee

fabricmom 02/20/2010 #

block

Craftlover10101 02/26/2010 #

Um my block isn't the same for the center and the stem??? Egads if I did it wrong I'm really going to scream I did it and redid it and than cut all new fabric to do it again lol.
Ok mine is in the mail and on the way.

BTW Holly, How did you post a pic?
