January...So, you think the holidays are over?? Well, guess what?? January is "Hot Tea Month"!! Check out this page to see the interesting days we can celebrate together in January.

For this swap you will choose at least 2 of the wacky holidays listed at the above site, plus Hot Tea Month itself, and figure out something to send your partner to help celebrate those days. So, 3 items total.(Other months we may include more days... because of Christmas I am keeping this one smaller) Try to work something literary into at least one of the days, as well...not necessarily a book.

Examples: an obvious choice would be some interesting tea bags for Hot Tea Month, or maybe a cute demitasse spoon? Or a small sugar bowl? A tea book? January fourth is Trivia Day... maybe a small trivia game? Or a book of random facts? The 18th is Winnie the Pooh Day... way too many choices there. :) The 23rd is National Handwriting Day... a lovely pen, a journal, a handwritten letter, a mystery novel where the detective analyzes the handwriting of serial killers... use your imagination!

There are some truly awesome days there... it will be hard to choose only 3. (Feel free to do more) Check it out, even if you don't do the swap. There's National Nothing Day (DON'T just send nothing!! Use your imagination!:), Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day, Backward Day...

Your gifts cannot all be stickers or cards... and one item cannot count for two days. One item, one day. Make it a diverse and intersting parcel, something really fun to open (although, with this group, a box of books and tea would probably be considered a gift from Heaven!) It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. You can find plenty of fun things that are inexpensive.

You can make some of the things if you want. So I won't put a minimum cost on here. It may cost you just a few dollars, or you might want to spend more. But it WILL take a little thought and organization on your part to make it special. The key is make it a package you would love to receive, something that will really make your partner smile.

So... one partner, one package, at least 3 items which represent Hot Tea Month and at least two special January days. Got it?

Because of Christmas stress, I will put the send-by date back a bit... it will be okay if we celebrate a few of the early wacky days a bit late (if you are sending something that needs to be used that day, like party hats for New Year's Eve, make sure you allow enough time to get it there early!)

No one in our group should have unexplained ones or threes, so everyone should be able to join. PM if you have questionable ratings... Flakers will be ousted so don't flake!! We want to keep our Cup and Chaucer family together!

(Oops, I did forget to give credit... the original idea for this was from @craftygirl who hosts something similar monthly! She has given us permission to use and alter it. :)

What a funny swap, Holly. Iร‚ยดll go for the National Sleep Day :)))

Are you going to set this up monthly? This sounds so great, but for me it is a bit difficulty about the literary part. First, because I live in Germany and english literature is more expensive to get and also because of postage.

If my partners are willing to swap with me, even if they donร‚ยดt always get a book, but instead an otherwise nice swap, than I will gladly participate.

"literary" doesn't HAVE to be a book... it can be a book related item. How about a bookmark? Or those paper bookplates you put in the front page of the book? Feel free to be creative. Also, sending a book monthly to and from Germany could be cost prohibitive!

To be honest I wouldn't mind ONE inexpensive German book (something with no bad words to worry about! just to use for my altered art things, ATCs etc. But most people probably wouldn't enjoy that. You could ask your partner. Generally speaking, this is sender's choice. :)

Yes, we can do this monthly or quarterly if we want to.

Fun idea for this group, but please give credit to the original creator of this swap, craftygirl. She has been doing this as a public swap for over two years. Her current one is here:

(sorry, I don't know how to make links!)

Not trying to cause trouble, just a stickler for "copyright law." :) I'll put this one on my watchlist as well!

Looks like fun. I would feel better about just having to send items for One special holiday, rather than a couple. Just because it is easier and less confusing and less costly to mail. But that's just me. Watching for now.

I love this idea. This should be lots of fun!

I love Penguin Awareness Day. Have to really be aware of those. And Squirrel Appreciation Day. Who comes up with this stuff.

hollycm6 12/ 2/2009 #

Oh yes, I talked to crafty girl first and asked permission to use her idea, I just forgot to put her in there! I should add that to both (I have a similar one in the cookie group)!

And it DID get a bit confusing for me, with several holidays to figure out. But there wre so many great ones! It is a fun package to put together and kind of silly and screwball. One day would be simpler but maybe not as funny. But Deb, you are welcome to hot something using just one day if you want (I'd probably join that one, too! :)

I thought it might work better in a group rather than with the whole community because frankly I put a lot of time and effort into my package in the other swap, and received three sticker sheets. It was disappointing! But the fun part is really putting it together.

Oh and hydro75, @beadeful had to show me how to make links... (I think it was her anyway!)... you write the word you want to say in [these brackets] (then the link you are using inside these parentheses), but DON'T put the space between the two types of brackets. And voila! Your words will show up in blue, and when you click on them, you are taken to the page!! :)

What the heck, I am going to join :) I found just one perfect piece yesterday!

hollycm6 12/ 3/2009 #

Oh good!!!

staceyb 12/11/2009 #

I'm excited about this one, so many great choices!

DebP 12/12/2009 #

Ok, there are lots of great ideas. But with Christmas I am deciding to sit out this one. But I'll look at the next month's options and maybe play.

hollycm6 12/14/2009 #

Okay! I apologize everyone for swapping partners so late!! This is the second time I have hosted a swap in the past week AND the second I have swapped partners two days late!! Where is my head????? Well, we are officially swapped now. :) I will try to be more timely in the future.

hollycm6 12/21/2009 #

So there is no way I can stick to just two of these days, plus hot tea month item... grrr... my partner may have to wade through a few extras...
