LLU: BYO📖 online book club - Oct 2021

Hello, readers!

One of the things I miss from working at a library is the casual conversations we would share daily with the library visitors. It could be as simple as recognizing another fan of a genre, or learning about an author I wasn't familiar with, or discussing their on-going research as an aspiring writer---even these small interactions would add another level of meaning to the fluctuating content of the library bookshelves.

This is a Bring-Your-Own-Book Club, where folks can have a chance to connect with each other by sharing about whatever book they feel like talking about at the moment. It's meant to be as easy and accessible as possible, since we try to make everyone feel welcome at the library.

I may provide some suggested conversation topics, but they are totally optional. -- Participants should feel free to write a little bit about one book (no spoilers please), regardless of whether you finished it recently or a while ago, or whether you're still working your way through it--or even one that you aren't enjoying that much, or have been putting off!

And since I think of Swap-bot as a place for making connections and learning about others, I would also encourage participants to introduce themselves a little bit at the beginning of their email--or, if you already know your partners, share a little update or fun tidbit about what you've been up to lately.

(OPTIONAL) suggested topics you might use or ignore:

📚 The third week in October is Teen Read Week - what teen book would you recommend, or look forward to reading?

📚 World Mental Health Day is October 10 - what books have you read on the topic that you would recommend?

📚 Oscar Wilde's birthday is October 16! If he were still alive today he'd be 167. What book would you recommend to him?

📚 October 16 is also Dictionary Day (in the US, supposedly). What book have you read that either improved your vocabulary, or made you more aware of it?

📚 a book of any kind that you would recommend (or NOT recommend)

TL;DR - SWAP RECAP:

📖 International, electronic swap - by (bcc) email or swap-bot direct message

📖 You will have up to 3 partners (depending on number of participants signed up).

📖 Introduce yourself--this can be very brief, as little or as much as you'd like to share! (If this isn't your first BYOB "meeting," a brief sentence what you've been up to is fine)

📖 Write at least a few sentences about one book--you can respond to one of the suggested prompts or not--up to you.

📖 Include swap name and username

📖 Don't forget to rate your partners :). If you received an on-time email/message that talks about a book, please give a 5.
