Very excited about this swap. I just checked to see what $6 is in UK£ and it's only £3. Should I spend £6 or £3? What's the etiquette in these situations?

does it have to be sent in a box? cause a post bag is much cheaper on postage for me

Jox - it is a bit of a dilemma for me too, especially with exchange rates as they are between the uk and u.s, and how much more you seem to get for a dollar than for a pound! So, um, no answer to you question from me, really.. :)

A post bag is fine. Just so it is quality stuff and a well-thought package. :)

I might go over to the forum and post a message about exchange rates etc. and see what the general consensus is there.

When you say 'box', you don't literally mean put it in a box, do you? I hope not; I'm planning to maybe wrap it up in something (tissue paper? or maybe just send it naked in a padded envelope!) and send t like that with a little note!

Hi Ayii, mailing boxless is okay with me. Just so the wrapping does not come a part in the post. :)

It is not hard cause you can find alot of dollar items on clearance at Michaels. Thrift stores are good for some cool items. Goodwill here gets targets 1.00 items and resales them for 25 cents and up. It is not hard to find deals. I got a nice doormat size rug at Bed Bath and Beyond for 79 cents. Plus 20% off made it 66 cents with the tax. So you never know what you may find in any store. Don't just go to some dollar store and pick out junk. The more you can get for 6.00 and be creative the better. 40% even 50% off coupons. A.C Moore has 50% off coupon for this monday. Yeah I may find some swap stuff.

USA boxes are free at the postoffice to use for Priority mail. If you cover with brown paper it can go Parcel. Not sure if outside the USA you can get these boxes. Some stores may have a free cardboad box. I find it is better to ship in them. I had many swaps stolen in the mail when I used a envelope. They are easy to rip open and take stuff out of them. So beware how your sending and how far. If you see how a package is treated you will think twice how you send stuff.

About postbags, I assume that means like a jiffybag or a mailmiser type thing - a strong, padded envelope designed to protect its contents from the badness that happens to stuff you put in the post. I usually use these as I've got about a thousand from mail-order goods (I always re-use them), but I don't think it's any more expensive to send in a box from the UK internationally - it's still Small Packet rate.

We have a store around here called Big Lots (I think they're west coast), and I've been getting scrapbooking stuff that I used to get at Michaels for $5+, for $1 and $2. No junk there either.

I'm thinking about joining, however I just wanted to make a comment on covering the priority boxes with brown paper. Do so at your own risk. The post office can randomly tear the paper, or it can tear with handling. If they see that it's sent as parcel, it will either be set aside FOREVER, sent back to you (unlikely), or it will be sent onto the receiver with postage due. It's been done to me, because another swapper used these boxes inappropriately. They are free to use, only if sending priority.

I just thought I would add my thoughts on sending things and shipping etc. I have become a flat rate envie and box person...

If sending to the usa flat rate is the way to go. I stuff the flat rate envies as much as possible. Than tape the heck out of them with clear packing tape. My postmaster has never said anything about it. As long as it was sealed well, I don't get hassled. I used flat rate boxes for sending my wish list or bigger swaps. I can pack them full and heavy. It is still the same rate.

My post office makes me fill out a customs form for overseas no matter what I send unless it is a postcard. I just started using small square boxes or flat rectangler boxes. I have had the same problem with the mailer bags getting mangled. I don't know but customs doesn't seem to snoop as much in boxes as overloaded bags.

Those are just my thoughts...

Did anyone send one to me before the 2nd? Just because I have a package being held in customs, and I'll have to pay £14.54 (Approx. $29.08) to get it! Please pm me if you did -- We can decide whether to have it returned, and you resend with the proper price, or whatever the problem is (I know someone had to pay £28/$56 for an extra ounce because someone added something after they put the pre-paid stamp on!).

Sorry about that :] If my partner hasn't sent, then I'll have a peek at people owing me things to get to the root of the problem! lol I know the package is from the US, by the way ^_^

I have offered to angel for this swap, but I can't afford to send 10+ packages!
