While cruising through Pinterest for a touch of inspiration, I came upon a series of these "wallpaper ornaments" and thought "AHA"! I have no idea why they are called wallpaper ornaments...they are ornamental, for sure, but wallpaper? Anyway. I'm on my own here, regarding how-to's, but how hard can they be? Let's ignore the fact that the wallpaper ornaments saved to my "Crafts" board have a Christmassy feel, and make them NON-Christmassy. It looks as if there's a firm background, something like a lightweight cardboard, and it is possibly scalloped or otherwise "fancy" (Cricut owners, this is right up your alley!)...but for this swap, the clean, classic oval shape is fine. The background is covered by pretty paper (sheet music, on the swap graphic), a smaller oval is cut out of the center, so the basic background makes a frame, and a lovely vintage photo is inside the frame. The inner oval is decorated with something lovely (let's forego the tinsel this time)...braided trim, or gimp (I think that's the word for fancy fabric trim) maybe...and the frame itself is decorated with pretty things. Buttons, rhinestone embellishments, or something of the sort. Cover the back of your ornament with pretty paper, and write your name and swap information there. Let's begin with an oval frame that is just about 4x6...nothing absolute here, just a good size for sending through the mail. |
