Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:April 30, 2007
Date items must be sent by:May 15, 2007
Number of swap partners:3
Description:

For this swap you will make a triptitch for each partner.

A triptitch is three panels (in this case ATCs), so you will make 3 ATCs for each partner = 9 ATCs in total.

And just to confuse you - one more step...each Triptitch will create a word (i.e. SUN, CAT, DOG, BOY, DAY, basically any 3 letter word). So, SUN would include an ATC with S, an ATC with U, and an ATC with N.

This swap will be international and open to anyone with a rating 4 and above. And, yes newbies are also welcome (if you are like most of us, you won't stay a newbie for long!)

Of course, if anyone needs further clarification on this swap, feel free to ask.

Does the triptech represent the word you choose? Do the 3 ATC's have to form one big picture when put together?

squintgrad 04/ 4/2007 #

good questions Nathalie,

I left that as choice. You could do a collage and cut it into 3 ATCs, you could do all yellow for SUN, have lots of cats in the background for CAT. Or you can do different designs on each card, so long as you have three letters that form a word.

Thanks again for asking - I know this one is kinda complicated.

My understanding of a triptych is that the image must flow from one through to the others like a continuous image that works all together but then it is cut into 3 separate ATCs. (Two would be called a diptrych.) But if you line them all up it looks like one flowing piece.

Are you using that same definition?

If so it would be tricky combined with the 3 letter word idea. Pleaser verify that for me. When I read your explanation a second time I thought it could also be read that this is a like a regular spell it out ATC swap (recent ones on swap-bot were winter, daylight, artist and spring).

(I was thinking of offering a diptrych swap later this month!)

squintgrad 04/12/2007 #

I guess I was trying to offer both. Technically, this then is more of 3 letter word spread across three ATCs. I wanted to leave it optional as to whether people created one piece and cut it or three related pieces.

If everyone wants to have it created as one piece and then cut, I will gladly change that.

As for the word, you could use it as your theme (i.e. all dog related stuff) and then place the letters D,O,G on the cards after they have been cut.

Thanks Christine for bringing this up.

I don't care which way it comes to me... but could I make one flowing piece? The one where I create one piece and then cut? :)

I'd like to sign up but I'm confused on how many I'm sending to each partner. Am I sending 1 triptych of 3? or 3 triptyches of 3 ?

squintgrad 04/18/2007 #

Hi Cheryl,

The swap is for one triptych (that's 3 ATCs) to each partner. So, it would be a total of 9 ATCs that you create (or put another way 3 Triptychs).

i'm going to have to drop from this, i so don't have enough time before i go :[

i hope to see another triptich swap sometime though!

Cooan, I love Triptychs (this is the way I learned to spell it lol) so I might one in the future maybe even a non atc one too. I also like ChristineMM's idea of a diptych (let me know if you do it!)

As far as I know, based on paintings in my Art History class, a diptych, triptych, or polytych (multiple panels) does not have to be a flowing piece. In fact, the majority of the ones I saw were seperate images but usually had the same theme (religious stuff etc). I will be doing some polytychs in my metalwork class and future painting class and I didn't plan and a divided single image. So you can definately do both.

I haven't decided what I will do for this one, I guess it depends on the word. Anyway, long message so I hope this helps some peeps!

I would love to join this swap - just for the confusion - but I belong to several (13) already. If anyone does any kind of "tych" in the future, hopefully, I will find it sooner.

Ann (I don't know your swap name or I would have pm's you), I love the minimalist cards & the word choice was perfect for me (P-A-X).

I've already emailed CazR about her beautiful G-A-L! I have got to find a way to display the wonderful cards I'm getting.

Thanks! Sandra

p.s. I don't think I notified my swap partners when I sent my cards out. Cheryl Ford & Lawrence your cards should have already shown up. Bavarian, I have no idea how long the mail takes from the US to Germany, but yours was sent out at the same time last week (on the 9th maybe).
