Description:

My aunt made a sunbonnet sue quilt for me when I was 10 years old. I love that quilt and still have it today. So I decide to make a sunbonnet sue ATC and hope you will join in the fun. I sketched out my pattern based on the one my aunt used to make my quilt. There are dozen of variations or you can design your own. If you have never seen a sunbonnet sue quilt please check out the following link: http://www.sunbonnetsue.com/patterns.html

Any medium, fabric, paper, polymer clay, etc. Embellishments are welcome, just remember the finished cards must fit into a standard trading card sleeve.

Each person will have 3 partners and send 3 ATCs to each partner. You will send and receive a total of 9 (nine) ATCs. So you will fill a whole sheet and have your very own sunbonnet sue "quilt". Only original ATCs please, no computer generate ones or copies!

Artist trading cards are 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches.

Please be sure you can meet the mailing deadline of May 7th before you sign up for this swap.

Newbies are welcome. Please don't sign up for this one if you have a swap-bot rating lower than 4.

My beloved mother was a quilter and loved Sunbonnet Sue. As the mail date for this swap should get them here in time for Mother's Day (in the US), I'm going to have to join in on this in her memory. I already have some ideas about how to make this my interpretation.

Question: Is "Suspender Sam" an acceptable motif as well? Or do you want to stick with just Sue?

LMM,

Suspender Sam! oh yes, What fun. I know there are so many versions of this one concept. Will be interesting if those who live outside of the US know about sunbonnet sue.

We know them better as holly hobby in Belgium, she was hot when I was young

I'm new to ATC's, but this caught my eye as I can't convince my husband that we should keep my Little Bo Peep quilt on the bed. It's similar to Sunbonnet Sue. Anyway, does a trading card sleeve have to be included in these swaps and if so what are they and where do you get them? Thanks

LMM 03/30/2007 #

Nathalie-- Holly Hobby is actually a copyrighted design from "American Greetings" that started in 1967....Sunbonnet Sue is much older than that.

The major difference to me is that Sunbonnet Sue never shows her face and is a bit stouter. Holly Hobby is shown in many different poses and outfits and continues to have a following especially among young girls here in the states. See: http://www.hollyhobbieclassic.com/ http://www.hollyhobby.com/

Kelly--I have never known the plastic sleeves to be required in a swap, but if they were the host would have said explicitly, so I assume they aren't. You can buy them on-line in tons of places, such as http://www.yourATCstore.com which just happens to be one of the current advertisers on this page!

Kelly,

You don't have to send your ATC in a plastic sleeve. Some people do but it is not required. The important part is they must fit inside one. So it is important that they are only 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Plus the embellishments must not be so thick as to prevent you from inserting them into the sleeve. Many people use baseball card albums and pages to store their collection of ATCs. Each page holds 9 ATC (or baseball cards).

So glad you are going to join us.

Sue in Australia and Shirley and Linda in USA, your cards are in the post from UK. Please let me know when they arrive. Regards, Margot.

The quilting pattern book that I have refers to the boy version as Overall Bill.

Mine are out to Australia, UK & 1 set is staying here in the US!

monkeycat 05/ 7/2007 #

One set of cards is on it's way to the UK and two sets are on their way to the US!

LMM 05/10/2007 #

Hope my cards arrive at their destinations soon....I know mail to UK & Australia can take a while, but thought the US set would have arrived by now....
