. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This idea came from swaps hosted by @HippieChick in Bug and Mo's Art Guild and The Print Shop. We made these by gluing paper scraps together. The finished pieces are really cute and can be used to embellish all kinds of other crafty things. When made with felt bases and fabric pieces, I think they might even be used as interesting brooches. So let's make some circles! :-) Begin with a hand-cut felt circle measuring approximately three inches across. This will be your largest circle. Do not trace around a template. The charm of Kandinsky Circles is that they are imperfect. Hand cut at least three other circles of varying sizes using textiles of your choice. Anything works. You can use hand-painted or dyed fabric, handkerchief pieces, quilting scraps, netting, felt, old socks, etc. As long as the textile is clean and can be cut into a circle, it will work. Stack the circles on top of each other with the largest circle on the bottom followed by the next largest and so on until you end up with the smallest one on top. You may want to tack them together with a stitch, a dab of glue stick or fusing material. The last step is to have a blast embellishing your stack with stitches. If you enjoy beading, you can add beads and/or charms. If you like painting, you can express yourself with fabric paint. You might add a button, a pom-pom or a bit of bling. As long as needle-and-thread stitching is involved, this is another do-what-makes-you-happy moment. Please remember to include your username and swap information in the package. Do we leave the back unfinished or do we sew an extra piece of felt to the back to cover up our stitches?

It's okay to leave the backs unfinished. Your partner will have the option of finishing it off according to how they'd like to use it.

Question: Should all 4 layers be attached at just one point (for example in the middle), OR should all four layers be securely attached around the outside edges to each other?

The tacking the stack together part was just a suggestion to prevent the pieces from shifting around. I'll probably secure the layers along the edges after I tack them because I'm imagining that to be a design element, but I can also see someone wanting something like frayed edges on their piece. I'll leave that up to each of you. You're better at sewing than I am, Brenda, so please let me know if there's any reason to require one or the other. Thanks for your question!

@mgallardo68 - I just saw this question and see that you've already mailed your swap. Sorry about that! I don't usually think to check comments after partners are assigned. If anyone else is wondering, though, this is for one stack of at least four different sizes of circles sewn together and embellished . . . in other words one Kandinsky-style piece of art.
