Description:
For this swap we'll be creating a base for a junk journal using a Little Golden Book. The swap, by Pink Paper Peppermints, can be found HERE Instead of sewing signatures into the spine, this tutorial has a traveler's notebook-style binding, so signatures can be removed. After we finish this swap by PPP, I'll be listing consecutive swaps using her tutorials for completing junk journal pages. This swap is for the COVER ONLY. You may use a vintage or contemporary Little Golden Book as the base for the junk journal you create--same with fabrics/trims used. I LOVE her videos, in part because she narrates a speeded-up version of her activities. Have you ever gone to a tutorial and the tutor talks and you watch her hands doing nothing for 5 minutes? These drive me nuts! So . . . I hope you'll enjoy the tutorial and join in creating something new in the group! To cut down on postage costs, feel free to mail the cover in an open, flat position. Let's make journals together!

Seems like a fun swap.
But what is a golden book? and is it ok to use another childrens book, if I find one that has the same size?
and if yes, what is the size of a golden book?

Hi Tessa. Little Golden Books are a series of children's books. They have a specific gold tape around the spine--I guess that's how they got their name! They measure 6.6" x 8" and are approximately 1/4" thick. It's fine to use another children's book that's around the same size, especially since we'll be covering the gold tape. Hope you'll join!

I love the graphics of these books and have wanted to do something with them for a long time. I see target sells them. Does anyone know of a place to buy them that costs less than $5?

There are always loads of them at my local thrift stores typically priced at 50 cents apiece. Amazon has 3 that I found right away for $3.99: The Poky Little Puppy, Scamp, and Home for a Bunny. All three have cute cover graphics.

how long do the elastics have to be?
might be handy to have them all in the same size, so the pages we are going to make wil fit

She doesn't say (at least I don't remember) how long the elastic cords should be. I would just create a signature of papers and fit it inside the cord to see what works before tying it off. I thought hers seemed a bit loose but I haven't yet created one so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

But if we make signatures in following swaps (if that's the case), wouldn't it be handy if all the elastic are the same length, so they will fit everyone's album. It would be a pitty to chop some length of because the elastic isn't long enough. (I'm sorry for my wacky English:p )

It does not have to be the same for everyone … or so I think! If everyones the same then it is not being as creative!

But of we are going to swap pages, the will have to fit the elastic. If someone received a book with elastic that are 4 inches long, and we will make pages that are 5, they will not fit. Or am I seeing it wrong.

Hi,
I have to drop from this swap... :(
I got some big bills this week and can't really afford to send the cover now...
But I will try to join the following up swaps, and just put the signatures in the cover I made myself :)
