Description:

Swap open to USA residents only, to keep cost low. This is a fast, easy and inexpensive swap. You will put paper scraps into a plain paper envelope which will weigh between 7/8th of an ounce and one full ounce. The goal is to be able to mail this with just one 39 cent stamp, making this an inexpensive swap. (No offense to members in other countries, I am trying to keep this to a 39 cent stamp cost.) The envelope must weight at least 7/8th of one ounce. This is so we are all being basically equal with what we send.

The pieces of scrap paper can range in size from anything that is bigger and still fits into the envelope and they can also be as small as one half inch by one half inch. They are to be PAPER scraps and can be anything from pages from a book, wallpaper samples, store bought decorative papers, tissue paper, papers you’ve painted upon, papers you’ve rubber stamped images onto, cut out images or words from magazines or whatever, map scraps, and they can also be used postage stamps, basically anything paper that is left over from other projects you’ve done. Please these should be scraps of a variety of things not all just one paper cut into small pieces or a whole envelope of freebie paint chip samples!

I personally plan to use these to make ATCs and small collages with. Due to the size of these, I imagine you will use these in your collage work and/or ATC making, as well.

Since this swap doesn’t involve creating artwork I am doing a fast turn around time from the sign up date to the date the scraps are to be sent out.

One envelope will be sent to two different partners, so we each receive two envelopes of scraps.

So if you have scraps laying around, even small scraps, and want to do a quick scrap paper swap, please join us.

Due to problems I have with “no-sends this swap is limited to members with a rating of 4.7 and higher and sorry, no newbies are allowed.

THANK YOU! Please do join us!

YAY!!! What a fun swap - I'm already collecting scraps for it! Thanks for the great idea!

Packed mine last night as I was culling through ephemera. I was surprised how quickly one ounce adds up.

jewels1 03/ 9/2007 #

My envelope is full, but I have no way of measuring whether it is an ounce or not. I'm sure it's over.

WillowTree21 03/ 9/2007 #

I always go over, however, for a challenge, I will do everything I can to stay at one oz. ... Please don't take that as me being cheap, I am far from that! LOL I just want to see what happens. :) They say you have to send more to get a heart, that shouldn't be true. I send what's in my heart and what I have. Let's have fun everyone! :)

sweetlittle 03/11/2007 #

I am having a hard time limiting myself...I keep adding things and then reweighing! I'm trying to keep it below one oz. for a challenge, too. :)

I feel nasty but hey, it is the rules, newbies are not allowed, so I just banned a bunch from this swap.

On the one hand I feel terrible for it.

On the other I repeatedly am burned by people doing "no-send's" so something has to be done.

Yes it is hard to keep this to one ounce, isn't it?

Therefore to deal with both of these situations I am posting another swap for next week that will include newbies. Anyone who is afraid of being burned by newbies can just not join that swap. Those who are new can play, and then those who have lots of ephemera and want to do another swap that only costs 39 cents for postage will have yet another opportunity!

I'm going to list that swap now.

My envelopes are stuffed and ready to go as soon as I have my partners! :D

ChristineMM 03/13/2007 #

I don't know why the system is not letting me assign partners. Stay tuned. Sometime today we are supposed to find out who our partners are.

Have fun everybody!!

Remember I started another swap that does include newbies. The sign up deadline is 3/20 and it has 3 partners with one ounce of paper scraps going to each partner. So if you have left over's come over and join that one too.

Mel 03/13/2007 #

I've got my "ounce" ready to go, but I won't know for sure how much it weighs until I get to work tomorrow and weigh it on our postal scale.

I have some very lightweight air mail stationery, so I'll be sending it in that! That way, the envelope won't "hog" all of the weight! :)

Swap-bot can be very testy sometimes - I've heard a lot of hosts say that it won't let them assign.

twobluecrows 03/13/2007 #

I think you don't get to assign partners until after the last sign-up day, which should be sometime after midnight, Swap-bot time, or tomorrow. Thank goodness, because I still had time to sign up! :) Cyn

ChristineMM 03/14/2007 #

Yes I was ahead one day. I just assigned the partners Happy swapping.

No newbies were in this swap. Everyone had a 4.7 or higher rating. I hope we all get our swaps!

Remember if you want to swap again this time with newbies join my one ounce scraps #2 which has a sign up deadline of 3/20/07 and a date of 3/27/07 to send by. Newbies please join us there.

Thanks everyone for playing!

My envelopes went out to my partners today. :D I actually had 2 ounces in each, but I somehow don't think my partners will mind! ;oP

mpontalba 03/15/2007 #

Camembert and tikihead...your paper is on its way! Happy swapping, everyone!

Mel 03/15/2007 #

I only thought I met the limit....weighed the darn envelopes on a quite sensitive baker's scale and each was 1 oz. Double-checked at the post office and had to buy extra postage...dang it! I'm not mad about the extra postage; just about not meeting the challenge! Oh well...

Mel and Jessica - Your envelopes went out yesterday. Keep your eyes out for them!

Mel 03/16/2007 #

Hi Julie and Curator Herbrant,

Well, your envies came back to me today - they were "too thick", so I had to add $.13 postage to each.

SHEESH!!! So they'll go out tomorrow the 17th.

So sorry for the delay! :(

Mel

ChristineMM 03/16/2007 #

Sleeping Traveler yours went out yesterday. Panda yours went out today. Enjoy!

ChristineMM 03/16/2007 #

Perhaps the 13 cents extra was for thickness. There is a rule about thickness of the envelope. My experience is that only SOME postal workers apply this rule. They have a tool to slide the envelope through and if it is thicker it gets a 13 cent surcharge regardless of the weight.

Mel 03/18/2007 #

Hmm....how interesting! That must be true, because I know I've sent out thicker envies than these. Apparently I got some postal worker on a bad day. :)

Mel 03/18/2007 #

Hi to Jessica from San Jacinto,

I got your package yesterday - AWESOME!!!! I know I'll use every last scrap, as they were all so fun.

But I don't know who you are! I mean, I will when I have to rate you, but who are you now? :)

Thanks again! Mel

jessica 03/18/2007 #

Mel I am jessica on the list. I am so glad you liked what I sent. :D

Mel 03/18/2007 #

So it IS you! I just love my package. In fact, I've already used some of the scraps in ATCs I made today! One thing, though - if you haven't already, I'd mark your package as "sent" (that's why I didn't think it was you).

Thanks again for an AWESOME swap!

Mel

ChristineMM 03/19/2007 #

I hope everyone is having fun with this swap. The swap deadline to send out by is tomorrow. As of right now the system says 10 of you haven't swapped yet.

Please can we have 100% participation? Let's not let the others in the swap down.

THANKS and have fun with the swap everyone, and with making art with the new materials afterwards!

Mel 03/19/2007 #

Okay, Lucyellen,

One ounce my patoot! :):)

All I can say is - wowie wow wow wow!!! I cannot WAIT to use these scraps!

Thanks to both you AND jessica for making me one very lucky girl! :)

Cheers, Mel

carterXchan 03/19/2007 #

Hi, I got my papers from Stephanie and Alhambra today! Thank you both so much!

I promise to get mine in the mail tomorrow!

lucyellen 03/20/2007 #

Mel - You're welcome! I found it very hard to stay a 1oz. so I shrugged and added more...:0)

ChristineMM 03/21/2007 #

Barbara B your swap came back to me by the USPS saying they want another 24 cents, I guess for thickness penalty and weight. Sigh. It will be resent tomorrow. Sorry.

lucyellen 03/21/2007 #

Jessie Mo B - Your envelope of paper is outstanding! Love the faces, the figure, the vellum and everything else! Thanks :0)

WillowTree21 03/22/2007 #

Got mail from Cyn and Dianne. Thanks!

jewels1 03/22/2007 #

Curatorherbrant & Julie, I got wonderful envelopes full from both of you today, I felt like I hit the jackpot when I got the mail! It's so fun to get paper from someone else's stash, it's all different from what I already have and I will use every last bit of it! Thank you both so much!

ChristineMM 03/24/2007 #

Janet Burns and Carter-Chan your scraps came and they are both fantastic. Plan to use some today to make some ATCs with. Thanks so much.

A side note on the postage issue with my swap to Barbara, part 2---my home scale said 1 ounce, so I mailed with 39 cents. It came back asking for 24 cents more. Slapped a stamp on then had boxes to take to PO anyway the other day. Asked clerk. She measured my envie and said if it is over 1/4 inch thick it takes an extra 13 cents. However she weighed it and she got 9/10ths of an ounce and said it needed only 13 cents. Too late, whatever, the 24 cent stamp was already on there. Just sharing this as it seems not everything is consistent, depends what scale a clerk uses, apparently, and now I don't trust my own home scale, sigh.

Have fun everyone, I know I am!!

I love this swap so much I may just open one up that weighs more. I'll have to think about it. I love how our stashes are all so different!
