Description:

Someone had started this swap a few months back and had suddenly dropped it. I don't remember who it was, but since I have not seen another one since, I decided to start it up again. I love the idea of crochet yo-yo's! This is something that would only take a few minutes to make (for 1). And I love fabric yo-yo's as well! What a wonderful package to receive! And a collection of them could be used to embellish other crafts, make a small doll afghan, etc. So here are the "rules":

*You will have 1 partner

*You will make 10 fabric yo-yo's (using at least 2 different fabrics)

*You will make 10 crochet yo-yo's (using at least 3 different yarns)

*Please use quality and fun or profile specific materials

*You must have a rating of 4.7 or higher

*No no-sends in the last 3 months

*You must have completed at least 5 snail-mail swaps

*Sorry, but no newbies please

*This is international. The yo-yo's are light enough that shipping won't be expensive.

*You can make more, include a profile surprise, etc for hearts.

*Fellow swappers, please PM if there is a possible flaker or conflict with someone who has signed up. I would rather handle these things discreetly. We do not know the circumstances of each other's lives...while some are definitely bad swappers, some may just be going through really rough times and I do not want to contribute to any stresses that people are going through, especially in the times our country is facing right now by publicly humiliating them in the comments section. If you are inclined to go on a witch hunt in my swap in the comments section, I will ban you along with the one you are calling out, if it applies to them. :)

*If I have left anything out or if you have any questions, please let me know in the comments section. :)

Please let's just have fun! And remember, please send out what you would truly like to receive. :)

What are crocheted yo-yo, similar to fabric yo-yos, like the inner circle of a granny square?

creativebebe 10/22/2008 #

yes, the basic crochet yo-yo is the inner circle of a granny square. i am in the process of making a few along with the fabric yo-yo's to post as an image. if you do a search in google for "crochet yo-yos" you will find more info and images of what they look like and how to make them.

are there any cool sites teaching how to make these yo yos?

TO MAKE CROCHET YO-YO's:

*chain stitch 4 and connect with a slip stitch

*chain stitch 3

*15 double crochet stitch around ring

*slip stitch to finish off yo-yo

it takes anywhere from 3-10 mins each depending on your level of experience. Here is a link with the same instructions with pictures.

TO MAKE FABRIC YO-YO'S:

*cut your fabric in a circle twice the size of the final product (4in for a 2in yo-yo).

*fold the edges in about 1/4" and baste stitch all around

*now gently pull your thread to gather the fabric edges together until you have a yo-yo!

This can take anywhere from 5 - 15 mins depending on your level of experience. :) I usually cut all my fabric out first. I also use a Clover yo-yo maker that I bought for about $6 at the fabric store (in extra large 2.25in yo-yo's). Here is a link with instructions with pictures.

THANKS!! I am going to check these sites out and see if I can do it before I sign up!

oooh...it's really easy once you've practiced one or two. i've given a 1 month timeframe so you would have plenty of time to learn! i do hope you decide to join... :)
