I try to turn the sound down during the Olympics so I can avoid the chants of "USA, USA" and the ridiculous commentary by NBC. I am as proud of Simone BIles as any American, and as embarrassed at Ryan Lochte's behavior, but I am one of those US citizens who happens to think that my country has faults as well as strengths. I feel like a global citizen. But I can truly say that I was proud of the United States Postal Service. Not only do they deliver ridiculous objects in a fairly reasonable frame of time, deal with incredibly annoying customers such as myself and usually maintain calm composure, but they manage to face the most ridiculous challenges in the process, rarely requiring a 911 call to deal with the situation. Then I discovered the challenges of delivering the post in Australia, the UK and the UK again. Yes, the UK wins the gold medal for bird attacks on letter carriers. Your mission: celebrate the international relationship between postal workers and the birds that love them. Or swoop on them. Or gobble at them. Or peck them. Even the ones that help them, I guess, if you're into that sort of thing. Please post more videos below. As many as possible. You may make any sort of flat mailable thing that your heart desires -- ATC, postcard, decorated envelope, flat ornament, drawing, turkey-shaped postman paper doll, et cetera. Send it to one partner. Open to all GASPees in good standing. Let's represent the team, whether or not we win the gold! I will not {ahem} duck the responsibility of unsent swaps. |
