ZMACS Oct: Wide Open Water

We began the panoramic mail art swap series of wide open spaces with a night sky theme ... now onto another wide open space -- open water. Expanses of water big and small often bring me peace. I'd love to see some other inspirational Wide Open Water from my ZMACS colleagues!

The idea is to create a scene in three to five pieces that can be mailed in one envelope, then expanded again to make a panorama. (I love fitting things in standard envelopes, it is a "cheap mail" sort of hobby.) So, for example, you could use one vertical page of 8 1/2 x 11 inch sized paper (A4), paint a vertical scene, cut it horizontally in three pieces like one would fold a letter for an envelope, then sent. Or the same three pieces could be joined in a strip with washi tape, painted as a horizontal scene, the tape removed and sent as three pieces. Or the three pieces could be oriented vertically. Or you could use differently-sized pieces. Or you could tile the pieces. Just indicate how to put the pieces together so your partner can figure them out.

Any art medium or style of Big Water is welcome, but here are some ideas: general principles for painting reflections in water, breaking water bodies into four observable elements in painting, tutorial on looking at water and translating this to a painting of waves at dawn, Bob Ross and painting windy waves, drawing calm waves with charcoal and white pencil, can be translated to other drawing media, drawing water on a lake with a pencil, drawing a calm ocean scene, stormy sea in chalk or pastel, beginning ocean waves in acrylics, painting breaking waves, seascape in watercolor, the always incredible Alfonso Dunn on water in pen-and-ink, and there are some great Pinterest boards on drawing water and also ideas for collage, which lends itself very well to water/ waves, leave some white rips showing for movement. Create a piece of art, in at least three to five envelope-sized pieces (pieces may be the same size or of different sizes) to be arranged in a row or tiled as shown below, featuring your personal interpretation of wide open water.
