Description:

I just checked out some interesting books from the library on making homemade art supplies -- one is The Organic Artist by Nick Neddo, and the other is Recipes for Art and Craft Materials by Helen Roney Sattler. It sounds like The Green Guide for Artists by Karen Michel and The Artist's Manual by Stan Smith could also be interesting resources. Here are some fun supply making tutorials 1 - paper, 2 - egg tempera paint, 3 - alcohol inks, [ 4 - walnut ink -- used to try to do this as a kid](http://gomakesomething.com/ht/supplies/how-to - make-walnut-ink/) and 5-Rice - based printmaking ink -- please feel free to post other links and books, or instructions, below.

Once you have figured out one art supply that you can make .. try making it. Then, try using in creating a mail art item for one partner -- an ATC, postcard, altered playing card, zine, etc, Send it with a link to the tutorial or a copy of the book page, etc, for the technique that you used.

So, to summarize: Try something new -- be brave and ambitious! Use your creation to make a piece of mail art of your choosing for one partner. Send your art and a reference for how to make your art supply to your partner. Smile!

I will angel all unsent swaps, open to ZMACS members in good standing :) Image is by Natural Earth Pigments

Same idea, a little neater. Of course, it doesn't mention the vodka.

Back to my walnut ink that I made as aa kids, only this time as an alcohol ink ...

On other fun art supply that is easy to creat is fused plastic ATC backgrounds for postcards, ATCs, dolls, et cetera. There are some great links and tutorials out there. Fused plastic can be used a lot like a paper.
