Description:

Let's send some love to Orlando, folks! In swap comments, we will post a list of possible places in Orlando to send postcards expressing love, support, prayers for strength, wishes for peace, etc. -- feel free to add other possible addresses for civic and support organizations, etc.

Our goal will be to spread some love to the city, no matter how many or how few we are, by sending one postcard to one organizational address in Orlando below, and sending one postcard to our swap partner as well, with any positive, love-spreading message that you choose. Any kind of postcard that reflects your country/ state/ community, love, support, positive thoughts, etc., is welcome -- handmade, store-bought, Zazzle, even a free card if it fits the theme. The consistent message should be one of unity, love, and support. We are all in this together; our cultures, beliefs, religions, and racial and ethnic backgrounds should inform us and teach us but not divide us. We need to understand and reach out to learn from others in order to put ourselves on the side of understanding.

If you have some interest in participating in a group to do periodic swaps to spread snail mail love to areas affected by hate, please let me know. I would love to try to find a way to stand on the side of love through mail on a regular basis!

This swap is open to everyone with a reasonably filled out profile, one swap completed and favorably rated, and no recent or outstanding 1's. I will angel any unsent swaps, and thanks for standing on the side of love :)

I don't know if I have cards in my stash that fit the theme, but I just want to say that I love you for making this swap. It makes me feel better to know that it exists.

rngstgstll 06/13/2016 #

And I am so glad that you are out there feeling that way! Maybe a local PC or generic sorta one, or one featuring a hero that works with others, if you would like to participate? I sometimes feel that it is the wanting to help others that is the most important part of the whole thing, anyway :)

Thanks for the addresses, YooperHill!

Thanks very much! I have been reading a bit on how agencies and organizations archive mail that has been sent after acts of violence and tragedy. Sometimes mail is collected and reviewed by volunteers to document the history of the event. I have a few links in the Side of Love group posts, I will try to put a few here as well.

smmarrty 06/18/2016 #

I sent one to nightclub and I will send a second card to another agency.

Here is an interesting report from 2009 about crimes against LGBTQ+ folks in the US -- although not recognized as hate crimes in many places, they tend to be crimes against people rather than property and there may be significant intrinsic bias against the victims of the crimes. I hope that we can make progress by continuing to stand on the side of love.

[More statistics about crime targeting citizens who identify as LGBTQ+ : gay men of color and transgendered individuals statistically more likely to be violently attacked. Let's stand on the side of love :) and let Orlando know that we want more love and less hate in the world -- thanks, everybody!

I ended up having a lot of cards in my stash, so I sent to many agencies, as well as Pulse. Thank you for thinking of a wonderful swap.

rngstgstll 06/24/2016 #

Yay! I just heard on the news that Pulse employees were reading mail together the other day -- I imagine that some of your postcards may have been there for the Pulse family :)

ScrapHappyGabi 06/29/2016 #

I missed the sign up for this but I am going to jump in and send some love anyway!! <3
