Ah, spring ... brings back memories of daydreaming during General Music classes in school ... Who better to inspire daydreams than those amazing Russian composers? From Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov to Modest Mussorgsky, and even Aleksandr Borodin, the Russian Romantics created music that could be so visual as to inspire pictures (or, in the case of Pictures at an Exhibition, be inspired by pictures)! Here's a new Rite of Spring (Igor Stravinksy) -- put on some Russian Romantic music and paint! No need for fancy equipment here, just water and a brush or two and some cheap watercolor paints. Maybe do a quick internet search for a few interesting techniques, such as salt scattered on wet watercolors, or wet-paper ideas. If you are more ambitious, try a watercolor monotype print! Make something cool and mail-artsy from your Russian Romantic inspired watercolor -- an ATC or two, a postcard, some inchies or twinchies, a bookmark, a handmade envelope, a minizine, etc. and send it to one partner. Open to all ZMACS members in good standing; I will spring into action to Russian Romantic all unsent swaps. Image is of "Russian Red Ragged Jack" kale :) |
