So, I read this Here which I love and it totally inspired me to do a Kandinsky inspired mail art swap.....that will last the whole year. You can sign up for just one swap, or for all of them, depending how large you want your final piece to be. . In this swap, you will make one 4 x 6 postcard, that is divided into 6 -2 inch sections, that you will then color circles in each 2 inch square....inspired by the work of Kandinsky Squares with Concentric Circles. Each postcard will have 6 squares with circles...like this... We will mail one postcard to one partner each month. At the end of the year, you will have several that you can frame together to make one big collaboration project. You can make these separetly each month, or you can do it all at one time, and save them for each month's swap. Your postcards must be 4 x 6, but can be made with any mediums. Feel free to paint, collage, sew, etc. And, of course, please mail these Naked. Have fun.

Should these be actual postcards or will a 4x6 piece of watercolor/mixed media paper work?

You can use water color paper, or any paper suitable for your medium, even fabric. I usually glue my water color paper to a substrate, like a cereal box or piece of cardboard to make it sturdier for mailing. Thanks for asking.

Thanks! I like those canvas covered boards but they may only come in 5x7. Most of the postcards I have are flimsy and the surface is shiny so the paint does not adhere well.

Yep, for existing postcards or shiny food packaging you can take a sand paper and scratch it. That gives the paint something to stick to. You can also spray a primer down or use gesso first. Often I find it easier to just glue my watercolor or canvas paper to plain cardboard. lol.

I'm using Neocolor II, a very, very waxy crayon. I'm thinking if I try mailing it naked then it will get very scratched up. So I'm going to send it in an envelope.
