Description:

In 2010 I lost a DLF (dear little friend, as Mr. Tumnus would say from the Chronicles of Narnia). Becky was the daughter of a friend and fellow BookCrosser, and she was a BookCrosser herself. Every year on her birthday (Valentine's Day), people across the world honor her in many different ways, including giving hugs to people who you love (because Becky was so friendly and showed her love through hugs). Another way we honor her is by releasing BookCrossing books on her birthday. More info: http://beckyshugs.com/

Your mission is to release one book on Valentine's Day. It can be any book, really. Check those used book sales/used book stores or the books on your shelves you don't want any more. If you want a challenge, try for one of these types of books:

  • Red or pink cover
  • Hearts on the cover design
  • Has the word heart or Valentine or hug in the title or subtitle
  • A book about animals (she especially loved cats, dogs, and horses; she rode horses)
  • A children's book (ANY children's book, but she loved Magic Tree House books, Winnie-the-Pooh, playing soccer, and Harry Potter)
  • A Valentine's Day holiday book

Register the book at http://BookCrossing.com, leave it somewhere for someone to find (a bench, a payphone, an ATM, a gas pump, a park, a community center, a cafe/coffee shop, etc.), then make release notes for the book to tell where you left it. If you want and if you can, take a photo of the release and send it to your partner and/or include it in the journal entry.

Send your partners an email with the URL to the book on the BookCrossing site and a short note about where you left it and why you chose that book. Remember that the URL should be something like http://BookCrossing.com/journal/number and never give out the full number with the first three numbers before the hyphen.

Feel free to release more than one book on Valentine's Day for this challenge. Becky would have been 14, so I'll be releasing at least that many, but the swap requirement is just 1. If you release a book a few days early or a few late, that's fine as well. Just make sure to send an email to your partners before the swap deadline.
