Description:

I have a nature table at home for my daughters, and love adding items to it that celebrate the different seasons.

With autumn coming in a couple of months, I thought it would be fun to create and/or find some items to share with others.

What is a Nature Table?

A small table or stand in your home that celebrates the seasons. A nature table may combine natural materials that bring the outdoors inside as well as include handmade items that fit with the theme (e.g., wildlife, gnomes, fairies).

The table is to help create a reverence for nature for the children of the house...though they are quite inspirational for adults as well.

Swap Details:

For this swap, you will have 2 partners and send each 2 items each. Of the items, 1 should be handmade and 1 should be found in nature.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • items with fall colors (warm oranges and yellows; muted browns; gold)

  • gnomes, fairies, or owls (made from wool or felt)

  • lanterns

  • needle-felted pumpkin, gourd, or apple

  • handmade candle in fall colors

  • silk or light-weight fall-color fabric

  • a leaf crown

  • a leaf banner (painting leaves on one side and creating a picture on heavier fabric)

  • nature people (made from pinecones, acorns, and other found objects)

  • needlefelted, knitted, or crocheted acorns or mushrooms

  • handmade doll in the Waldorf style

  • dried sunflowers, pinecones, and vibrant leaves, twigs, acorns, walnuts, almonds, stones, feathers, or gourds. (No live items, please.)

A Few More Details:

  • Anyone with a rating of 4.9 and above PLUS no no-sends in the last six months can join. Everyone deserves to receive something for their hard work. Please keep up your end so nobody has a bad experience.

  • Swappers must have 5+ real mail swaps completed and be rated for them.

  • Swappers must be current on all their swaps. There should be no swaps with past-due deadlines.

  • Hostess will NOT angel this swap but will seek angels, should there be anyone with the bad taste to flake.

  • Because items from nature are being sent through the mail, this swap is for U.S. participants only.

I reserve the right to ban any swapper at any time, regardless of rating. Absolutely NO questionable swappers. I will ban the day after sign-ups close so don't worry if you see a swapper who does not make the entry requirements.

If you have any questions, please pm me.

What a great idea for a swap!

Thanks! I didn't see that it had been done, so I thought it would fun to do something along this line.

Just traded some of the Waldorf-inspired window stars I made for hand-embroidered gnomes and needlefelted acorns, and it was exciting for my daughters to have new elements for the nature table.

If there's enough interest, will do more swaps for other seasons and special holidays.

Oh, so sad this isn't international....I would so love to join!

I was hoping you would say that you are possibly planning more nature table swaps for the future! Awesome!

i was going to sign up for this.. then saw "U.S. participants only". shucks!

Its a shame this is not an international one. Can someone do something like this for the rest of us and maybe just exclude the item from nature because of quarantine issues. I am busting at the seams to felt up a doll for someones nature table, what a great swap freespirit66. If there is enough interest then maybe I will set up an international swap of something similar.

I think it would be wonderful if you could do this for each season so that we can continue to update our Nature Tables. Also, a Waldorf Doll swap would be fun, too!! Thanks for thinking of this!!!

HHmmm. Ok. Just found the Winter one. You're on the ball. I'm not - sorry! LOL!

This sounds like fun! My only request is for nothing new age, I love nature, faries and gnomes are OK too, just nothing too extreme. Thanks!

mountaingirl 08/10/2008 #

I would like to participate too, but I don't have enough swaps under my belt. Maybe someone should host another one and make the requirements a little different like making it international as well, so more people can participate.

chriskit81 08/11/2008 #

I really wanted to participate because I actually do have a nature shelf of my own....but it would be my first swap so I guess I don't qualify. Bummer!
