You will make 1 fabric quilt block 8 x8 for 1 swap partner. You can make the quilt block however you like. Here is the twist. If you crochet or knit you can still join.I read a very interesting article in a mag today. You would crochet or knit a quilt block and stitch the block to a muslim or fabric background. This makes for an interesting finished quilt block wouldn't you say.

If the swap generates enough interest we will do this every month until your quilt blocks will be big enough for a wall quilt to hang.

So come join in the fun.

Newbie and players with a 4.0 and no more then 1 no send welcome. If you have more then 1 no send please email me.International swap

Your photo shows a Crazy Quilt block. Do you intend for us to make Crazy Quilt blocks or regular pieced blocks?

funkykchicken 01/ 5/2007 #

Thats the photo i found. You can make any type of block you want. You can knit and interesting block or you could crochet say a flower block. As long as it is on a fabric backing its ok.You can make the fabric block in any way you like as well. You dont have to do a crazy quilt block.

Im hoping theres enough interest to do one each month. We could have a small wall hanging in the end.Either way lots of fun.

thiswillbegone 01/ 5/2007 #

Oh I'm in on this one! I love quilting!

FingersInc 01/ 5/2007 #

Yes, this could be quite fun, and addicting !( as in fun to do for a number of months as you put it). I'm in.

funkykchicken 01/ 6/2007 #

I did this once before in a round robin sort of thing.Sorry i cant remember what the hostess called it.Anyway i sent 1 block out and when it was over i had a small wall hanging. It brings a smile to my face each time i see it.Its a great way to make new friends as well. You are all welcome to add photos to my flickr account as well,as you go along and make them.

Thanks for signing up everyone im so happy.

DianeM 01/ 7/2007 #

When you say an 8" quilt block I'm assuming that you want us to add on a 1/4" seam allowance/border so the actual measurement is 8 1/2"? TIA. Smiles, DianeM :)

funkykchicken 01/ 8/2007 #

you may add that if you like.Since i dont know how people will choose to use the block i will leave that up to you guys. The quilt blocks i make are sometimes used to make a fabric book or even hung on the wall as is.I dont always use them for a quilt or wall hanging.Hope you will join us and please use your best judgment.

funkykchicken 01/ 9/2007 #

I just wanted to add that if you knit or crochet the block. Please note that you would just hand stitch the block onto muslim or fabric.I was thinking i may not have been clear.

user5654 01/11/2007 #

Can the block be a regular made quilt block and then add something of crochet to it or can it be just a quilt block?

user5654 01/11/2007 #

also will you contact me as to when to make the block and whom to send it to.

funkykchicken 01/11/2007 #

The quilt block can be made anyway you would like to make it as long as its 8x8...There are no other rules. You can start to make the block now and then come back here and check to see who to send it to.If you need additional help let me know.I also have fabric ATC and a fabric Going Postal swaps as well if you like to work with fabric.

user5629 01/15/2007 #

Hi to you all:) As I am a lover of PW so just found this swap very interesting for me. For a few times I have already swapped with my partners all over the world (not with swap bot but other Groups), so I can say that it gives new horizons to the one, kinda new things to learn from other talented ladies. I am very impatiently waiting for this swap! Thanks to swap owner for her kind thinking about this.

N in City Istanbul.

funkykchicken 01/17/2007 #

Welcome Turkish Delight and enjoy the swap,we will be doing this next month as well.

user5629 01/18/2007 #

Thanks for yr welcome mssg funkychikenoriginals:) I have found you upon an advice from my friend in the Netherlands. That is how I registered here:) Yet I am a newbie but very interested in participating for this swap, b' cause it is related to my passione PW:) As of this month I will be watching over the list to see the appropriate swaps. Next month I will be thinking about it as well. Sure, it seems nice idea to create a wall quilt to hang and show it to our family, friends...like a memorial something, isn't it? May all you have a great day.

TerryF 01/28/2007 #

Hi funkychickenoriginals: I just tried my very first piece of crazy patchwork last week for a pin cushion swap and it turned out pretty well (for a novice), so I think I will do one for this swap. I do have a question though. After the piecing was all done, I machine embroidered all of the seams. I didn't have to quilt it because it was being sewn up into a stuffed pin cushion. If I do that with this quilt block, is that ok? Or will the machine embroidery possibly interfere with any quilting should my partner wish to do this? Thx!

user5654 01/28/2007 #

I started two because not sure yet what the person will like that I get so getting a couple ready, The first one has a bird in the center and crazy quilt surrounding it with a few hand stitch's on it, the second is a different pretty bright colorss with lace added.

FunToScrap 01/30/2007 #

I would love to do this, but all my blocks are 12 1/2 inches, would anyone be interested in swapping that size?

sleepingrover2010 01/30/2007 #

I also want to let you know that I will be sending you a thank you note via snail mail if you are my partner. I will do the rating on the site as soon as I can. Thanks

user5654 01/30/2007 #

HI FUNTOSCRAP, I AM BEE I LIKE ALL SIZES IF I GET YOU I WILL SEND 12 INCH TO YOU

funkykchicken 01/31/2007 #

Hi Tassy, Yes i think that would be fine. The idea when you do this type of wall quilt is to just join them togather without a border.Hope I'm making myself clear enough. For those who don't do the edges the receiver could do herself. So if you get blocks without the seam being done then you could embroider it.A pin cushion i swear we think alike,i did one for my color swap partner. If i beg pretty please would you at least consider a blog? I really want to see all these pretties you do.Your pin cushion sounds gorgeous by the way.

funkykchicken 01/31/2007 #

Hi Ladies,

Sorry i haven't answered questions until now.I've had a migraine my husbands away for 2 weeks and my 2 year old decided his new bed time is 2 am...

Funtoscrap:When swap-bot assigns names you and Bee could ask your swap partners if you could switch with them. You will still need to leave them a rating though.I made the size requirements 8x8 so it would be a little quicker to do.So please do join us this time and next month as well.We will hopefully in about 6 months have enough for a small wall quilt.

Have fun ladies

funkykchicken 01/31/2007 #

Tassy:

If you get my name again I'm going to fall out of my chair I'll be laughing so hard.

user5654 01/31/2007 #

Hi, funkychickenoriginals, I have also made the heart pin cushions before and shamrock pin cushions but the shamrock was a little harder. Looking forward to the swap bee

user5654 01/31/2007 #

Hi, funkychickenoriginals Sounds like it would be fun getting your name lol!

TerryF 01/31/2007 #

Hi funkychickenoriginals: I don't know about a blog...where do you find the time on top of family and work and crafting and even sleeping once in a while?!! I'm not really an artist, I just like to dabble in various crafts as a hobby and to make gifts for family and friends. When I see what other people make, I can hardly compete! Let me research the whole blog thing and think about it for a while... Thanks for the interest though! Talk soon...Tassy

funkykchicken 02/ 1/2007 #

Your Art is beautiful i have some of your postcards to prove it.If you blog just blog once a week.I have to organize my time to fit everything in.I sleep about 6 hours a day lol...

user5654 02/ 2/2007 #

Hi Tassy, I was reading your likes and dislikes, Do you like paula deen? I got you as my swap partner. bee

funkykchicken 02/ 2/2007 #

Hi Drewzel

I got you as my swap partner. Is there anything in particular you would like to see in your block?

1CrazyQuilter 02/ 2/2007 #

Hi Lori, I will be sending out our package today :)

TerryF 02/ 2/2007 #

Hi BEE: I love cooking but have never really checked Paula Deen out, although I see her mags and books everywhere. I have been fighting a weight problem for years and I don't think she exactly does light and easy recipes, does she? Lol. Are you planning to do a quilt block with her face on it? If so, would you mind doing something else instead? LOL. I see from your comments above that you have been working on a couple of different blocks and sizes. Please just send me whichever one you like. I have very eclectic tastes and will probably use these blocks individually anyway, so I am not worried about them all matching as we go along. But thanks for asking! Tassy

TerryF 02/ 2/2007 #

Hi Rebecca: I am your swap partner and was planning to do a crazy quilt block for you, but haven't started it yet, so if you have any colour preferences, would appreciate if you could let me know in the next week or so. Otherwise, I shall forge ahead. Thx! Tassy

user5654 02/ 2/2007 #

Tassy, I sent your package out today bee

TerryF 02/ 3/2007 #

Looking forward to it BEE. Thx.

funkykchicken 02/ 3/2007 #

lol a block with Paula Deans face on it? I'm falling out of my chair I'm laughing so hard.I swear Tassy you crack me up,what a hoot that would be.

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "use your imagination"...I almost lost my OJ there ok i need to compose myself. Can yyou imagine it? A quilt block with her face on it ha ha ha....

I've been doing carb free for about 6 or 7 years now.I enjoy watching her but i don't eat sugar anymore. My kids make me sign up for the sweet swaps and their little skinny selves get 1 each a day....

Oh my thanks for making me laugh today i will be chuckling about this all day..

funkykchicken 02/ 3/2007 #

Oh i almost forgot..Drewzel I'm doing a crazy quilt block in some of the colors i saw on your blog.So let me know please if you would like me to choose something different.

user5654 02/ 3/2007 #

Hope I didnt insult anyone about the paula deen, I was just asking tassy if she liked her because she had noted she collected cook books, never thought about making the block, but now I may make one formyself seeing how she is my favorite cooking lady and from my state only a few miles from where I live. She is a lovely person.

TerryF 02/ 3/2007 #

Hi BEE: Please note that I was only kidding with you about Paula Deen's face! Lol means "laughing out loud" and is my way of letting you know that I was just having fun, definitely not insulted at all! I appreciate that you were checking out my profile and noted that I love to collect cookbooks. Now I think I will go and buy a Paula magazine on your recommendation. But if her recipes are too good, and I gain weight because of it, you know whose fault it will be....LOL. Tassy

funkykchicken 02/ 3/2007 #

Bee:I was only teasing.I don't collect cookbooks(well i do baking)but i watch all of her shows on satelite.I hope your not to upset with me as i really wasn't trying to be mean.I would do a cooking themed quilting block with squares of say recipes and her in the middle. You could do a small wall hanging and frame it.That would look marvelous in the kitchen and with it being framed would protect it as well

Joyce

user5654 02/ 3/2007 #

TASSY AND FUNKY, Now you two have me laughing I by no means am upset lol! I was going to put some of her recipes in tassy package but didnt instead added some cookie recipes, if you dont like them you can always pass them along. I love to cook and this is superbowl weekend meaning I have been cooking all day between cooking.cleaning and making quilt blocks I am a nutt case by this time.I was also supose to be working on my web site, I ust to have a quilt group back in 2000 up to 2003 but had to stop due to my hubbie being sick and my Dad at the same time, so now getting ready to start it again still have my old members, they have stayed in touch so glad of that, anyway HUGS TO BOTH OF YOU TASSY AND FUNKYCHICKEN

Colleen - hi, I mailed your block off today. Be watching for it. I didn\'t send a note or anything except just the quilt block, I wished I would have told you about it. The design was drawn by my 18 year old fashion design daughter, and then I embroidered it and embellished it. I hope you like it.
