Description: | |
Sugar art was brought to the New World by Italian missionaries in the 17th century. The first Church mention of sugar art was from Palermo at Easter time when little sugar lambs and angels were made to adorn the side altars in the Catholic Church. Sugar skull art reflects the folk art style of big happy smiles, colorful icing and sparkly tin and glittery adornments. Sugar skulls are labor intensive and made in very small batches in the homes of sugar skull makers. These wonderful artisans are disappearing as fabricated and imported candy skulls take their place. Since this is the time of year when styrofoam skulls are marked down around halloween and shortly after, I thought it might be fun to make a sugar skull project. This swap will be for 1 life-size skull decorated as a sugar skull using anything that will make it spectacular! Paint, glitter, ribbon or braid, appliques, stones etc....Make it something your partner will cherish! ****** People have written that they are only finding the smaller skulls ( 4-5 inches)-so lets amend the swap to say either one life size or a set of 2 smaller skulls?****** Since this is a big project, I am making it for USA only, but anyone who wants to take it international, feel free 1 life size skull-(or two smaller skulls)-1 partner-No flaking-4.90 and above (newbies welcome with a well filled out profile) Go crazy for Day of the Dead! |
