Description:

New to Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)? Or just want a fun, easy project? This is the swap for you. :) Newbies with a filled-out profile are welcome!

You will create one ATC for your partner, using fingerprint art. If you've never done fingerprint art, it's not difficult - it only requires a creative mind, a stamp pad, and a pen or some markers or colored pencils.

Use your web browser to search for images titled "fingerprint art" or "thumbprint art." There are also images on Pinterest. This is not fine art. It's whimsical, free-form, and fun. If you use a colored or printed background, make sure your fingerprint image shows up clearly on top of it. Try not to create just one tiny image in the middle of your card with a lot of white space around it. Think of how you can fill the card with your image(s), or add a border or some text.

Sender's choice for theme, but check your partner's profile to make sure you're not sending anything on their dislikes list. If they don't like purple, or spiders, then you definitely don't want to send a fingerprint spider made with purple ink. :)

Inspiration here, and here.

An ATC must be 2 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 inches in size.
Make sure your card has neatly cut edges and is uniform in size.
Use sturdy card stock, or back your art with card stock or recycled cardboard.
Please include the name of the swap, your name, and the date on the back of the card.
Send on time.
Rate promptly and accurately.
If there are problems, communicate promptly and graciously with your partner and the swap host (me).

Have fun!

Cute idea!

This sounds like so much fun!! I've seen ATCs before but never tired my hand at them. This should be lots of fun! Can you add other elements, like a collage or is this mostly just painting? (Like glitter, sparkly stuff, etc)

You can add other elements. Just make sure the fingerprint is the focal point of the card.

Ed Emberley is one of my favorites! Can't wait to make some fingerprint animals!

I've never made an ATC before but I want to give it a go and this one sounds fun! Can't wait

@Doodles24 , I hosted this swap in a group recently, and had a few people who were new to ATCs try it and like it. It's low pressure - no serious artistic talent needed. :)

Please know that I do watch who's joining the swap, but I don't remove anyone until I'm ready to assign partners.

Where do I find those plastic sleeves for the cards?

TC 07/23/2013 #

@SAPsMaMa , I have heard that you can get them any place that sells trading cards. Try your closest WalMart.

I checked, and Target. They just have the expensive ones with the color backing. :( I'm just reusing the ones I receive so people I send to don't have to go without and their cards get damaged.
