Description:

For this swap you will be creating a mini-blank junk journal for 1 partner. Have you ever created a junk journal? I have done 2--one mini and one larger and they are FUN to make!

For this swap, the blank journal you create should measure around 4"x6", although that's a guideline--a bit larger or smaller is fine. It can be bound in any way you wish--sewn, stapled, spiral bound--whatever strikes your fancy. The mini journal should have at least 10 pages (20 counting front and back), and have some type of cover (cut-down file folder, scrapbook paper, or anything you like).

Examples of papers you can use inside the junk journal: - junk mail - brochures - old greeting cards - paint chip samples - paper bags from stores - pharmacy bags - ledger paper - old notebook paper - old maps - paper grocery bags - old book pages - wallpaper samples - anything else you can come up with!

Since it will take a bit of time to collect your papers and combine them, you'll have a month to create the mini-junk-journal. Remember this journal will be BLANK--it's for your partner to use.

Participants must have a 4.9 rating and be rated for 20 Type 3 swaps. No 1's or 3's in the past 3 months. U.S. and Canada only due to postage costs for anything over an ounce.

I'd love to try my hand at making a junk journal, and mini seems like a good place to start. Unfortunately, I just don't have enough swaps yet 😥.

Can you use postcards as the pages? and maybe add other papers on the blank sides of the post cards?

okellyhh 06/ 3/2013 #

too bad it's not international.. i'd love to join and have a mini junk journal too =)

@Dakini55 ..yes! please use postcards--I plan to use at least one in mine.

@okellyhh please feel free to start your own international swap for a mini-junk journal. I have no issue with you using my description or anything--it's all creative fun. I am typically VERY sensitive to international swappers being excluded. I'm off to San Francisco shortly to visit my daughter but will create an international version upon my return if someone has not already done so.

Just a quick note: when I created my junk journals I did make sure that if there was NOT a surface where writing would be legible, I would add an index card, a piece of ledger paper, an old piece of notebook paper, part of a paper bag, etc. Some "fun" papers are not always conducive to being used as writing surfaces, so be creative! Of course each page doesn't have to have a WHOLE PAGE of free writing surface. Remember also that you can "jazz up" plain paper with rubber stamps, stickers, rub-ons, etc.

Do we decorate the cover or do we leave that blank, too?

HI quick question, I really like this swap but want to make sure that I am understanding the guidelines. Does every page have to be the same size? or can there be some smaller ones and biggers ones?

I'll be making a junk journal based on ruKristin's Fold It In class. It's a really cool way to bind the papers. You can find out more here: .

I tried it out last night and it was quick and easy. I can't wait to collect all the papers for this swap!

Whoops, the link didn't show up... http://rukristin.blogspot.com/2013/04/fold-it-in-sneak-peeks.html

Hi everyone...I am visiting my daughter in San Francisco for a week and missed the questions--apologies. I'll wait one more day to assign partners in case answers affect joining/dropping.

@kiddo47 I think we should decorate our covers--that's what I plan to do. That said, if you receive one with a BLANK cover that is very nicely made, please do not rate down. I should have made this clear from the start--my oversight.

@Scrapper 427 No--every page does not need to be exactly the same size. Standard sized papers and interesting bits are not always the perfect size, but that's what makes it a "junk" journal!

@PVMcHugh MANY thanks for the link! I am a visual learner and love tutorials and pictures. I've put this link in my favs!

I'm just starting to work on this, and its quite fun, but I do have a question. Do both sides of each page need to have a writing surface? For say if you're using the front if a greeting card, and one side has a photo and the other is blank, can you leave it as is, or do you have to add a writing surface to the picture side?
