Description:

This swap is for people who like scrapbooking, paper crafts, tea or other hot beverages, food, other cultures, traveling, and random goodies (a.k.a. surprises)!

[Update: since people seem to miss this info (as it is at the bottom of the swap description), I'd like to inform you before you continue reading that this swap is for people with a rating of 5. Unrated swappers and swappers with a rating below 5 are not allowed. This is because the swap is just too big to take any risks.]

For this swap you put together a package to really spoil your swapping partner. You may have to spend a bit more money than you're used to, but that's why you have 2 months to complete the package. Also, it doesn't have to be expensive!

You'll have 1 partner to whom you send a package including all of the following:

  • 5 pieces of ephemera from your country/town. This means: brochures, pamphlets, bus tickets, recycling stickers, forms, local newspaper articles/pages, receipts, adverts, labels, and so on. If you end up with a partner who lives in the same country, try picking things that really have to do with your town.

  • 2 postcards of your country/town. Not written on and no stamps on them. If you want to include a note, do it on a piece of paper.

  • A recipe from your country/town/culture. It can be from a local restaurant, your grandmother, or just something typical to your country/culture. It doesn't matter, as long as it's local and includes a picture! (The picture can be taken by you, clipped from a magazine or printed from the internet, it doesn't matter.)

  • 3 self-taken pictures of your street/town/area. Not clipped from magazines or anything. They can be from an instant camera or a digital camera, it doesn't matter. Just make sure you took them yourself. Don't write on the pictures but include notes that tell a little about the pictures.

  • 3 bags of tea, cocoa, or coffee. I don't mean entire packs, just three separate pouches. Like this: http://mijnkopjekoffie.com/shop/produkt-per-proefzakje/proefzakje-arabica-koffie-met-ganoderma-extract/. But check if the country you're sending to allows the product to be sent into the country! (Just google it.) If the country doesn't allow it, think of a replacement that would match the costs and effort.

  • 2 delicacies from your country/town. It can be candy, pasta mix (for a dish the receiver has to make), cookies, sandwich filling - anything that you can send without problems. It must not go bad in the mail. No one wants to receive fungus.

  • 2 wishlist gifts. Check your partner's profile, see what they like and include it. Don't make it 1 sheet of notepad paper, or something. If you decide to send notepad paper, background paper or anything of the sort, make it at least 5 sheets.

  • A piece of jewelry. It can not be more expensive than 10 euros (13 American Dollars, 8.65 British Pounds). It is entirely sender's choice, but local crafts are the best.

  • A letter of advice. You probably don't know your partner so if you feel awkward addressing the letter to your partner specifically, just start with "Dear You". Make it 1 sheet (front and back) long, at least. Share your wisdom. Share all the things you've learned in life. Share the things you would want your children or their children to know. Pass on what you know. Make the world a better place.

  • A list with 5 of your favorite books. Add reasons (why do you like these books and why would you recommend them?), add pictures or reviews or magazine clippings that remind you of the books. You can make this a piece of art or just use a paperclip to put it all together.

  • A list with 5 of your favorite movies. Same as above.

  • Anything that you like from a local store. It doesn't have to be a local product. It can be a vase, a necklace, a scarf, a book, anything - anything YOU like. Must be at least 3 euros, 3.9 US dollars, or 2.6 pounds. Don't spend more than you can spare! A keyring is fine, too!

  • 3 buttons (those things you close your coat with - not badges)

  • 1 empty/unused scrapbook or notebook

  • 2 Bath & Body items. Can be cosmetics, can be soap, can be lotion, anything of your choice. Can not cost more than 10 euros per piece (13 American Dollars, 8.65 British Pounds).

  • 3 random items, entirely sender's choice! You can include a mug, stickers (all stickers count as 1 item), sunglasses, scarves, baking powder, anything - anything at all! (Don't do postcards or notepad sheets if you've already included them for one of the former requirements).

Make sure to make it a nice package!

Because this is a rather big package and requires more effort and money than most packages, I'm not allowing anyone with a rating under 5. No exceptions and no newbies (no offense, newbies). I think I've included plenty of guidelines to make sure everyone receives a swap equal to the swap they send.

Right, happy swapping everyone!

Any questions? I'll be happy to answer them in the comments section (but private messages are fine, too)!

Although my profile says only send vegan foods and cosmetics, I know it could be impossible for this kind of swap. So, of course it would be nice if you could find something suitable but if you don't, I won't mind if something you send contains milk or egg, because I can give them to my spouse. I still wouldn't like to receive anything that contains meat. Thanks for understanding. :)

I absolutely love this swap and certainly will join! There's just one thing I'd like to address (and as you are quite new yourself, please don't take it in and annoying way but as well meant advise): This is a really big/expensive swap - you might consider opening it only to people with a 5.0 rating. It's one of the swaps that really take lots of time (and money) and it would be very unfair if anybody would be flaked on. So, think about changing the rating requirements and maybe also the experience of swappers. I realise you're quite new yourself, but it wouldn't be such a bad idea to require at least 10 completed Type 2 and 3 swaps from people who join. So, as I said: Love this swap, but please consider these points. ;)

You are probably right. I wanted to give those with lower rating a chance but it could be too risky. I'll change it.

arikara 03/ 9/2013 #

I'm looking forward to this one :) Thanks for giving us heaps of time, as it might be an expensive one :)

Colinde 03/10/2013 #

why the three buttons? I don't really understand, haha. Nice swap though, I'm in. Although I already feel scared about the shipping costs, haha!!

Pouffia 03/10/2013 #

The buttons for those who like paper crafts and scrapbooking! :)

The shipping costs will probably be more than most Swap Bot packages require, but you don't have to buy heavy items. You can limit the costs :)

This sounds like a wonderful swap and I would love to be a part of it. I am a little confused about the requirements. Can you clarify if I would be able to join? I joined swap-bot 9 days after you and I do have a 5 rating. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon. Thanks so much!! :)

Pouffia 03/11/2013 #

@mrscuddleton you can join in, be welcome :)

bridgetg 03/12/2013 #

WOW .......i cant wait to have the right ratings so that i can join in with something like this....sounds right up my street :)

kitterslady18 03/13/2013 #

How many swaps must you have participated? Am I too new to do this? It sounds really fun and interesting! I would really like to join but I understand if you think I am too new to do so.

Thank you!

Pouffia 03/13/2013 #

@kitterslady18 You can join in if you like :) You've completed 5 swaps and you've received 1 rating, but it's a 5. And you have an elaborate profile. The standards are no unrated swappers or swappers with a rating below 5 and you're neither. :) Of course you're new but if I had to go by that things could come very selective, and I want to avoid that. So feel free to sign up :)

mrscuddleton 03/15/2013 #

@Pouffia thanks so much!! :)

Fever 03/16/2013 #

To all the newbies: Until the sign up date you still have some time to collect ratings, so people will see you're great swappers by then. :)

I've always wondered , how are swap partners chosen?

Pouffia 03/16/2013 #

I'm not sure, this is the first swap I'm organizing. But if I understand correctly you can do it manually or let the computer do it. If that's so, I'm going to do it manually because I want everyone (or as many as possible) to have a swap partner from another country. For this swap, I mean.

@Pouffia - Swap-bot does it for you. You can't manually choose partners.

Pouffia 03/19/2013 #

Ah! Well, that clears things up :)

mara76 03/24/2013 #

would love to join in.. i hope i get the ratings before sign up date. sounds like a wonderful swap..all the favourite things i'd love to put together and receive!

Bluegirl 03/28/2013 #

Hello everyone! I am really excited about this swap!!!!! I have looked through people's profiles and it is a VERY international group. I am hoping whoever is my partner is as keen as I on this swap! I love to get nice things, specially if they come from foreign lands!!!! P.S. I'm not allergic to anything, but do no send any meat or licorice related (or flavored) items.

winternite24 04/ 1/2013 #

Will you be doing this swap again?

Pouffia 04/ 1/2013 #

Possibly but not certainly. I'm thinking about making this a recurring swap for once every two months (if so, items to send would vary) - but at the moment I can't guarantee anything.

Cupcakelovesyou 04/ 2/2013 #

can the jewellery be handmade? As I make my own jewellery?

Cupcakelovesyou 04/ 2/2013 #

Pouffia 04/ 2/2013 #

@Cupcakelovesyou yes, you can make your own jewelry. And I just made another one for June 1st :)

Cupcakelovesyou 04/ 2/2013 #
