Description:

April is Autism Awareness month each year and as my son has Autism (among other disorders), and I have worked with lots of people with neurological disorders - I like to do my bit each year. I thought this would be a great way to do it - Martiel over at craftylink.com did a video last night of her making a jigsaw drawing and this sparked this idea. So...I'd like you to cut out a jigsaw shape in sturdy card, make it your own with paint etc and send it as a postcard to your partner. Include the words APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH in your design, find out one fact about Autism and write this on the other side of your PC along with your partners address and stamp.

BEFORE you send it away could you also scan it and email it to me at tracy.shave@mouldingfutures.co.uk as I will be making a slideshow video of them all to raise awareness. If you also know someone with Autism and you don't mind them being added please email over a photograph of them too and we'll put them in between jigsaw pieces.

Have fun and don't forget you don't have to stick to the rainbow spectrum design we commonly associate with Autism... have fun and make it your own.

I tried to find the video you referenced...couldn't find it. Can you post a link? I have a friend with two autistic daughters...so this is near to my heart too.

Thanks!

Great idea! I cannot promise to make a card, for this, time is at a premium, but the ides is wonderful!

We do not have autism in the family, but helping sis and her teaching, I have become very much aware of it and the complications the sufferers and the family deal with.

Watching til it gets closer to time! I have too many on my DB at the moment. I love this idea! It is near to my heart as well. Also, I like shaped PCs. So great swap!

@Houstonsgal - there is no video yet - I will be creating it from the images that get sent to me from this swap, and I'll also be getting other people to take part too - in making a piece and sending their images.. :D @thebragal - It should still be flat mail as it is a postcard.. when I say decorate I don't mean sticking stuff to it - just a picture, colour it in etc but it's a postcard so should still be flat. :D

Hi Tracy, Could you link an example, like Martiel's puzzle piece so we have an example to see? I've been looking for her video from last week and I'm chasing my tail. I can't find it. Thanks

Hi Lindak - I haven't done mine yet but just grab a piece of card and cut out a shape of a jigsaw then fill it in. Will try to do a video of one next week. I'm on a course tomorrow so can't do it yet but will try sunday. Tx

Hi Tracy, The jigsaw pieces, can you give a rough size for us to work on? I have got jigsaw pieces which I have kept of various sizes but none as big as a post card. Love the idea... am going to try and work on it soon! Thanks for sharing! hugs

If you already have jigsaw pieces I would suggest you do roughly the same shape but on a bigger piece of card. You want to be roughly the size of a postcard so grab postcard size and then just cut into it. Doesn't have to be fancy shapes just so you can see it's a jigsaw piece. Does that help?

Thanks Tracy. also, I found this page on facebook - Circle 21. They are a page for parents with Autism. hugs Just wondered if you'll be interested to know. Be blessed. http://www.facebook.com/Circle21

Just wanted to let Tracy and Linda K. know that I have not mailed my puzzle pieces before the deadline (today). I did a set and did not like them (although I do appreciate your positive feedback Tracy!) so decided to start again. I will mail them Monday 03/25/13 - sorry for the delay!
